Terry Pratchett

4.25 AVERAGE

A different story, hilarious, very creative with charismatic characters. Each paragraph has a phrase with an idea or concept. I loved.
It has some similarities with Terry's first book that I read: like the strange romance, a crazy villain and the recurrence of death. But I suppose all these are signs of the writer's identity.
Of course I plan to know what the discworld holds for me

This was my introduction to the Discworld and I’m so lucky that it was because I don’t really enjoy most of the earlier books, and, in my opinion, this is where the series finds its stride. Pratchett has found his voice and leans into the satire, this time introducing us to the Night Watch: Sam Vimes, Nobby Nobbs, Fred Colon, and Carrot, and really fleshing out Lord Vetinari…characters so beloved that they feature in some capacity in almost every subsequent book in the series in either a major or minor role. This book it is still a favorite, one that I return to over and over again.

It's twelve o' the clock, and alls well.
The first book in the city watch subseries of the Discworld. A true to form, imaginative and entertaining story of dragons, kings, and a suspiciously tall dwarf who has just joined the ranks of the Night Watch as the first ever volunteer.

As usual, Pratchett's descriptions are fun, if slightly unhinged, giving the whole story that unique Discworld feeling which we enjoy so much. The characters are lovable and the action and violence is coloured with just the right amount of slapstick.

Overall, highly recommended for anyone who'd just getting started on their Discworld adventure.

I must say I'm partial to the Librarian. OOk!
Per usual, I have to be at full mental capacity when reading Pratchett, as he'll go off on a pretty long tangent just to make a joke, or a kooky situation even kookier. I'll laugh out loud often when reading Pratchett, but he does run-on a bit and often I can't follow. It's okay, I still love Discworld and all its crazy characters.

I enjoy these Discworld books. Funny, absurd, entertaining. Carrot, Nobby, Vimes, Colon, silly characters.

Liked it so much more this time around, but I still noticed the flaws that made me give it only 3 stars before. Nostalgia adds a star? Or maybe only half a star. Hmm. Maybe I'll just leave the stars alone and dream of ten million stories about the epic adventures of Lady Sybil the dragon breeder and her trusty and devoted assistant Sam.
