Review: There are three things that summer can be guaranteed to bring:

1. A ridiculous heatwave that us Brits are not prepared to withstand
2. A barrage of train delays and cancellations due to the aforementioned heatwave
3. A new Sandra Brown novel.

Only one of those is something I really look forward. Probably hard to tell which one, right?

Sandra Brown is back on ★★★★★ form with her latest release chock full of twists and turns. Even though I always going into one of her novels with the knowledge that the Hero will be a little rough and ready and be hiding a lot of secrets but will ultimately always be a good guy (it is a romance after all!) I still end up having moments of doubt just like the Heroine does.

John Tucker is an intense ex-federal agent intent on getting the bottom of a conspiracy which started with the bombing of hotel during which his father The Major rescued a 5 year-old girl who grew up to be Kerra Bailey a TV journalist, who, coincidentally, is also digging around in the circumstances of the bombing that killed her mother and, soon after, her father as well. Circumstances call for these two to join forces and go on the run whilst trying to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Hero and Heroine aside, this novel proves that you should be wary of every single secondary character introduced as they will invariably end up being key players in the wider plot and hiding more than their own fair share of secrets. I don't want to elaborate on this any more as you really need to go into the novel unspoiled to get full enjoyment but all I can is you're in for a treat!

Ugh. I had never read Sandra Brown so gave her a try. Never again.

I posted this review on my Facebook page on April 28, 2018. Thought I would bring it over to my Goodreads page now.

Begin: I was looking for a good mystery to devour this weekend, I couldn’t be more excited than to pick up her latest book, Seeing Red.

Attempted murder, kidnapping, a host of shady characters and—smart and snarky banter—made this novel unputdownable (is that even a word?).

Sandra Brown, flips the script; and, nails the perfect balance of suspense and romance. There's a reason she's become one of my new favorite authors.

Another book I read as a challenge to myself. It is a genre that I know little about, and I am not likely to know more about the genre.

The plot is silly, the characters stereotypical, and the "romance" more adrenaline-fueled lust than any actual emotion.

The main character, a TV news reporter, vacillated between being tough and being victimized by both the hero and the bad guys. The hero is an emotionally-crippled bad boy whose idea of foreplay is sticking his hands down the heroine's pants.

So, there are many many worse stories out there, but I don't see where this is anything other than a formula book for people who have never had a healthy relationship with other human beings. Two stars because many people like this sort of thing, and it probably isn't a bad example of its genre. Just because I didn't care for it doesn't mean you won't like it.

3.50✨

I usually love her books but did not enjoy this one. The main male character was a total jerk.

Usually enjoy Sandra Brown's novel and this was no exception. Interesting and intriguing storyline....she always makes well rounded and colourful characters...The premise of the novel has Kerra Baily, a TV journalist on her way to talk with Major Franklin Trapper, a reclusive American hero, who once helped lead some survivors to safety when a bomb goes off at a hotel in Dallas... The Major no longer grants interviews...he has turned Kerra down flat several times but she has done her homework and thinks she has found her way into the interview with the Major's bad-boy son, John Trapper. John Trapper is a both rude, volatile, and a former ATF agent. The only problem is...father and son have had a falling out and no longer speak....one thing leads to another and John does get Kerra the interview with his father....only after the interview things go terribly wrong....which leds Trapper to reinvestigate who actually was resonsible for the bombing of the hotel so many years ago...(I fell in love with John Trapper....great character).

This was my first SB book and, wow, I don’t know how I’ve missed out on her. I expected a thriller but it’s actually half romance, which was a delightful surprise. A solid thriller and a solid romance, that’s not easy to balance. The plot twists were so much fun. Looking forward to reading her other works.
