Audiobook version. This is a quick and easily approachable read. While I read it the full way through, early on the author advises focusing on the chapters important to you and normalizes moving in a non linear fashion through the chapters which I appreciate. Each chapter provides a nice recap summary and short exercises to practice.

Not all of it resonated with me but I think there's some really good and really actionable perspectives here that is definitely worth reading for most people, as we all at some time or another struggle with the feeling of being stuck.

Interesting information, but much too jam-packed, hard to absorb everything with so much detail and many topics. I feel like it could have been expanded into several books to be honest.

This was great!  Britt Frank is so relatable to me with some of her experiences (which she's transparent about) and achieved something I've wanted to see for a long time - a choose your own adventure version of a self-help book.  It's written so that you can access any chapter, and connect only with the content relevant to your needs.  Don't need input on relationship management or parenting?  Skip it.  Though, comprehensively, it's an excellent read on what - biologically and psychologically (it's all connected) - is happening for those who feel "stuck".  She offers multiple action plans for getting un-stuck, and recaps every chapter with a simplified breakdown of the core concepts in conjunction with an evidence-based exercise intended to be of benefit.  I would say this is a helpful read to anyone who identifies with symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, stress, BURNOUT, and more.  Best of all - unlike so many books about managing stress and projects - there are no highly-detailed horrendously tragic case studies to have to process.  She does mention some client stories, semi-anecdotally, but it's all relevant and non-distressing.  Happy reading!

I'm not a big self-help book person but I did enjoy this book and found it very accessable and useful. I appreciated the fact that Ms. Frank was up front about the disagreements that come up in the science of mental health and trauma. She was clear that this was a "cliff notes" of her readings and techniques that she finds successful in her practice and her own life. She also wrote the book so that chapters could stand alone so if you are stuck in one area you could just read that chapter. I particularly liked her use of checklists and bulletpoints. Each chapter ended with the main takeaways, a Dos and Don'ts chart, and 5 minute challenges for you to practice the lessons from the chapter. I enjoyes her descriptions and cartoons of emotionally unskilled families and the chapter on how to be human. The book is well referenced with footnotes and index.
