I loved this book. I remember not loving it as much as the first two when I first read the series but I just reread it and I love it. The story is different than the first two but I feel like Fainne is a much more relatable character than Sorcha and Liaden. I loved the book, loved the character development and the ending.

I really enjoyed the first two books, but this one let me down a bit. I did like the ending, but I felt the pacing was slow.
Everything was wrapped up nicely, but the beginning and middle dragged a bit. I didn't like Fainne very much, she frustrated me. Sorcha and Liadan were both strong, fierce women who stayed true to themselves against all odds.
It's a shame, but Marillier’s writing is very enchanting and absorbing.

A fitting end to the trilogy, and a fun read.

Actually 3.5

I liked this book about as much as the first two (which I love) but the ending kind of ruined it for me. And the slight repetitive-need that took place in this book.

pd. ¡Adoro a los selkies! ♥

Not believing you are good enough or worthy enough is the hinge fainne hangs on, though she is determined and has a thirst for learning, to prove herself to her father. She has been sheltered with no one but her father and her one friend that being thrust into the company of others is terrifying and strange to her. Though she fears for those she loves and loves despite knowing she shouldn't, she struggles to become something other than what her grandmother tells her. As with everything juliet Marillier writes, it is beautiful and rich and filled to the brim with more emotional turmoil than one heart can handle.

Overall, this series is great. The worldbuilding is definitely where it shines the most, and I love the way this series evolves in a way you get to see all characters from different perspectives. However, I thought this one was the weakest in the series. Still great, but not as much as the others.

The main character's thoughts were far too repetitive at times, and it hindered the pacing of the story a little. Though it was still a 600 page book that didn't feel like 600 pages at all. I was able to sit down and read over 300 pages without feeling it, just like the books before it. That's a feat and I don't know how this series did it.

The romance was great, though, I loved the way it developed, even if I wasn't a huge fan of some things that happened right before the end. It still had a fairy tale quality that was interesting even though it's not my favorite dynamic. I also loved seeing some old characters get more spotlight than in previous books.

I have to mention this though,
Spoiler the title is a spoiler. Not so much in English, but the Portuguese title is a very glaring spoiler. I didn't really care for it because it was something I was thinking about at the end of book 2, so.

Great series, amazing characters and an incredible world. I'll probably pick up the next one sometime in the next year.
