I liked the concept of this book.
But I felt like the author placed a lot of these creepy characters into the books to create more of a shock when the real murdered was revealed/just to throw you off.
Henry was introduced at the start of the book, but kept popping up randomly to remind you that he could possibly be the one murdering the girls, when I think it was pretty obvious he had absolutely no tie to the college. I don’t feel like he added anything to the plot.
I also felt like Fred was super creepy to Mariana (like all the other males in this book) but at the end when it was revealed he was not the murderer it was like the author wanted to be like ‘look he didn’t kill anyone so he’s a good guy’, like no he is still super creepy.
I liked the ending and the plot twist, but I don’t think it was thought out as well as ‘the silent patient’.

Wow wow wow

Beautifully written. Fluid. Seamless. Keeps you at the edge of your seat.

A must read to all lovers of Greek tragedy and detective stories.

If goodreads would let us go half stars it would be 3.5. The ending helped it. But took me forever to read this one well the beginning did. Flew thru the last half.

Sophomore novels are tough, especially when your first novel is a runaway hit.
The premise has a lot going for it: Cambridge, murder, a mysterious society, a charismatic professor, Greek mythology! All the elements are there, but I wasn’t captivated.

Widowed Mariana is drawn back to Cambridge, when a college student is found murdered. Cambridge holds the memories of her courtship to her husband and the mystery of the murdered student. She races to find answers before more lives are lost.

I might be growing out of dark academia. I didn’t find anything new and insightful in it. The nod to Michaelides’s first novel was interesting, but was not elaborated on.

The audio book has two narrators, both do a wonderful job, the male narrator’s voice is creepy and great!
Thanks to netgalley for the audio book, it is very well produced.
