I liked Omens Bite so much better than spells trouble. There was a lot more of a story to me in this novel. The sisters are at odds and there is no build up to the story since it picked up where the first novel ended. However I found some chapters more enjoyable than others. The Mercy point of view chapters made me really hesitate continuing the novel. She just acts like a self absorbed brat. While this is part of the story and meant to be part of her traits but it was making the story really hard to read at times. I really enjoyed hunter’s chapters better.

Mercys character is very self-centered and likes to be the “pot calling the kettle black”. Everything Hunter did was wrong and no one could tell her differently. This really started to wreck this series for me because it was too over the top.

Hunters chapters were so much more enjoyable and had so much more happening. There was action and suspense where mercys were mostly complaining about Hunter. Hunters character however shows how important boundaries are. She really stands up for herself in this story and I loved it.

Overall I really want to enjoy these books more than I do as a whole. I really feel like Hunters chapters saved this novel for me. I would have had to mark it as a did not finish if it wasn’t for those. Instead I’m excited for the next novel especially with the cliffhanger ending this one had. I feel like it redeemed itself at the end.

Audiobook Review

I only listened to a few chapters of the audiobook. I didn’t feel the narrators voice fit the characters that well. The voice used for Mercy sounded too valley girl for me. I found the print version better for this reason alone.

I received an advanced copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

So I was gifted this book from @wednesdaybooks for my honest review.

I read the first book and sadly I didn’t love it. However I was excited for this book in hopes that the storyline would progress enough to grab me. Sadly that wasn’t the case. I struggled to get into it. I just wasn’t invested enough in what was going on. I truly wished that I was. The cover is gorgeous as well as the idea of the story but there were things for me that kept me from really being submerged.

I am sure that there are readers out there that will love this book. If you have read the first book your going to want to find out what’s going to happen to these sisters. Lies will come to the surface to reveal their truth. The sisters must accept each other for who they are or they will never be able to save themselves let alone the world.

In short:
Did I like it? Not really.
Would I recommend it? If you like these authors then yes.
Would I read more by these authors ? No

Omens Bite
by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
Audiobook Narrated by: Cassandra Campbell
Published by: Wednesday Books
Publication Date: 04/05/22

** Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review. **

Synopsis:
In the second book of the Sisters of Salem trilogy, we continue the story of Mercy and Hunter Goode, who have lost their mother and are working to heal the trees that stand as gates to five mythological underworlds.

Thoughts:
Honestly, I enjoyed the first in the series, Spells Trouble, but I didn't love it. Rating the first, 3.5 stars, I didn't have the highest expectations for this second book in the Sisters of Salem trilogy. With that said, this book exceeded all of my expectations. Mercy and Hunter saw major character growth from the first to the second, which I not only enjoyed but helped me feel more connected to the story as a whole. The plot continued to amp up, which increased my level of intrigue. Was this novel, a fictional masterpiece? No, but I had a damn good time. I'm officially looking forward to the third and final. I'm ready to see how the story ends.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for this ARC!

I was a huge fan of the House of Night series so when the Sisters of Salem series was announced, I was so excited. This book is the sequel in the series and follows twin witch sisters who guard the gates to the underworlds.
I find the world building and magical system so spot on, and this is always hit or miss for me. I think the characters need a bit more realism, specifically for the dialogue. But this was excessively readable, and I’m intrigued to see where the story goes from here in the next instalment.

Welcome back to Hunter and Mercy with Sisters of Salem. I really want to like this series and I love these authors very much. I feel this book had some ups and downs for me as I read it. I fell we got to know the characters better in this book but I did not feel a connection with them like I wanted to. I guess for me I am missing the spark I found in the House of Night series and the characters there.
All in all the book was ok for me I will keep reading this series just because I love the authors and can't wait to hear what else is in store for this story. But I am looking for the spark I fell in love with in some of the other work these author produce. I hope to find it in their next works.

Seriously? I guess this novel wasn’t what I expected. It’s the second book in the Sisters of Salem series, which I didn’t realize until after I received my digital copy. To really get the gist of the story, I highly recommend that the first book, Spells Trouble, gets read before this one. I believe I missed out on some of the finer details by not reading the first book. However, I don’t think my opinion would have changed even if I did read the first novel.

The two main characters — Mercy and Hunter Goode aren’t that likeable as they come across as spoiled, entitled teens without discipline. The other characters in the story are just okay. Maybe I would have appreciated them more if I knew of their backgrounds.

The plot is pretty linear without much twists and turns. This novel actually reads like a middle grade book in my opinion. Prose-wise, it is very simple without much flair. I didn’t really feel engaged and often felt like I was reading a children’s fiction book.

Needless to say, I probably won’t be reading anymore books from the authors. Two stars — it was okay if I managed to finish the book.

I received a digital ARC from St. Martin’s Press | Wednesday Books. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Normally I love P.C. And Kristin’s writing. I love HON. But I can barely stomach this series. I never write negative reviews. I love YA and maybe its because I set a high expectation for the two of them that I find this series severely lacking in character development. I was really hoping that this second book would make me wrong about my thoughts in where this series was going and how much I disliked the first book. I gave the first one 3.5 stars and rounded it up to 4 because of my love of Cast. This I just couldn’t get around. I got about 50% through the book and am not DNFing it. I am intrigued about the story, I want to actually know what happens and how they fix the trees/gates. But I can’t stand the twins anymore. When they are with their friends they are usually fine…UNTIL one of them thinks or mentions the other. Maybe it’s becuase I am the only child. But I do have cousins. I grew up very close to them buy i never had such animosity towards any of my family. The way the twins whine and how Mercy constantly blames Hunter or thinks that Hunter is at fault just makes me not want to continue. I am sorry but this series/book is not for me.

This is the second book in the series and I liked that it picks up right where it left off.
I was waiting to see the outcome of the twin sisters, Mercy & Hunter.
This book delivered.
I read this quickly because once I started, I could not put it down.
Memorable characters, fun & a great developed story.
