Alberich is back and trying to destroy the Library.Typical mayhem, typical plucky main characters. Nothing special but not bad.

As with the first two, The Burning Page is just so FUN. This one in particular returned to the fast-paced and thrilling sort of story that endeared me to the first and felt lost with the second, which I greatly appreciated. Cogman's snappy writing and likable characters make this a continuously enjoyable read throughout. I was glad to have Kai and Vale back in the picture more full-time. Irene is great on her own, but its the characters around her that give her life and make the story considerably more interesting in my opinion. There's really nothing I can complain about with this book. It's not the best thing ever written, but its fun and a refreshing break when you've been reading perhaps heavier choices instead. I highly recommend it and look forward to picking up the fourth installment.

Irene, Kai, and Val battle against the evil foe! The Library is in danger of being destroyed and Irene with it. Another jaunt through fantastical worlds. Action galore.

Didn't see the twist coming
any of them, now that I think there were more than 1
continued slow worldbuilding - the better kind, honestly
consequences from the previous book - as there should be
all in all, good

I'm continuing to really enjoy this series. The second book took us to Venice, while, here, we visit pre-revolution Russia, and Cogman works in the real history quite effectively. I previously read Naomi Novik's Temeraire series, which also travelled the globe, but, unlike in that series, Cogman's stories don't feel to me like we're travelling the world just to make up the page count. Her stories continue to be engaging and fun, with plenty of action and deduction happening.

Irene continues to be wonderful to spend time with. I love her intellect, but also appreciate her second guesses and uncertainty in her relationships. She's capable and quick-thinking, and I really love how she thinks her way out of sticky situations, of which there are several in each book.

Still really enjoying this series, and each book has been a favourite of the year. I'm hoping it's going to be a new favourite series when I'm done.

This is, as always, a quick romp. I liked this one better than #2, so I am pleased to think that as a series, the author has more for us than just the same adventures/chases in different milieus. A little less of the background ideas of alternate worlds and more theory, but also character development. I worry about indefinite series that eventually I'll get tired of the characters and their universe, particularly with mysteries. So far, I am on board and not looking for a conclusion.

Alberich is not gone, obvi. This one missed the mark for me. So much movement happens in the geography of the characters but there wasn’t much for suspense or action throughout the whole book. It was pretty slow until the last 20 pages.

Cannot believe Irene disclosed information about her parents to Alberich. DUMB. Lol - That will get used against her at some point.

Was glad to see things improve for Vale. The chaos of the previous Venice ordeal was much more inclusive from the readers viewpoint. The tiny bit of time in St. Petersburgh in this book was almost like - why did we even bother with this? It was so short, I would even argue irrelevant to the rest of the story entirely.

Onto the next one!
adventurous mysterious fast-paced

The best book of the series just yet. Irene is such an incredibly interesting character, the villain is to die for and mystery after mystery they plot thickens and makes this book as incredibly entertaining as I hoped!

If you are unfamiliar with this series, we follow Kai and Irene. Irene is a Librarian, a role in which she collects books from alternate worlds and brings them back to her home base the Library - imagine a room between worlds. Kai is a dragon prince who tags along just because he can, and together they visit worlds, collecting books, dodging death, and constantly feeling feels for each other but neither wants to ruin the friendship. We are three books in already, hurry up and KIIIIIIISS. Haha, the romantic tension is killing me.

Look, I can't say much without spoiling the first two books but this series is everything I ever want. Strong female lead, mysteries, magic, and a tiny tiny bit of romance. Like, I ship this guys so much more than any other characters I have read and they better kiss in this next book or I'm suing.
