I was given a free galley of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Another charming addition to The Invisible Library series, this book picks up where the last left off. Once again our characters find themselves involved in intrigue as they work to assist the library. This story deals more with Irene's journey and her personal battles with her nemesis. Proving her competence while still enjoying the support of her comrades, Irene squeeks by again.
I highly recommend this series.

This was a solid instalment of this series, and though it lead to an exciting and satisfying final show-down and conclusion, the earlier part of the book was a little repetitive, and though lots of things seemed to happen, the story itself kind of stagnated.
I felt a little on the back foot in relation to Irene’s relationships with Vale, Kai and Zayanna, which sometimes felt a little forced, especially where relationship issues were squeezed in amongst an action packed plot.
There are still lots of things to like about this series and the world, but it seems like we have got to the point where Cogman is holding things back to create tension, rather than giving more information, which has the unfortunate effect of having some of the characters’ actions seem quite stupid.
I am, nevertheless, still looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I received this as a review copy. This is the 3rd book in the Invisible Library set. It is interesting as a stand-alone read but would be better read in order as part of the series. It is the tale of librarian spy Irene. Irene is on probation, so she is tasked with simple "fetch and retrieve" projects. Nothing seems to go smoothly for Irene and her apprentice, Kai (a dragon) An old nemesis, Alberich, reappears to make trouble and to destroy the library. The Librarians shift between worlds to retrieve items deemed important or rare by the mysterious Library. Irene's new task goes haywire from the start. There are dragons, Fae, werewolves and other fantastical beings. The alternate universes or worlds are ruled by Faes, dragons or some other entities. This will definitely need to be re-read in sequence in order to establish who is who. Still all in all it was a good book.

It's really a 3 star, but I thought the ending was phenomenal, so I stuck on an extra star for that. The rest of the book is kind of all over the place. It kind of feels like the characters are stuck going random places, doing random things or having random things happen to them, and the point of the story doesn't become clear until well past the halfway mark. But it's the third book in the series, and if I've read this far it means I have some investment in the characters and I plan to continue even if this one was a bit structurally weak.
A fun read although I was hoping this was just a trilogy. It seems like things are stretching out just to make more books rather than specifically furthering the plot.
