The Loss is set 40 years after The Rise and it seems that not much has changed. Klaus is still angry over the death of Vivienne and plans to have her resurrected once he can find a compliant witch. The main change is that the Mikaelsons are no longer forbidden from creating new vampires, they now run the city.
I really enjoyed this, the Vivienne element was a nice plot. I did get a little bored towards the end, but will definitely read the last in the trilogy.

Spoilers, y'all!

What in the world was this book? Klaus, married? Rebekah plays a prank at the wedding? That makes zero sense, what is she, seven? Zombie things eating hearts, everywhere?

What a hot mess. And Klaus will never be able to love that way again? How stupid to put that in the book, knowing about Camille and Caroline? I can't, y'all.

There are some parts when I wished to slap klaus for his distrust for his siblings. How can he think that his siblings hate him?? When everything they did was to protect him. A quality I adored about the originals.. Klaus - His love for viv. Though he's selfish, he loved her with whole heart. Elijah - His passion to keep his siblings together. Rebekah - Though she hated klaus, she never intended to let him get hurt. It was fascinating to read. The way originals ripped the heart out of undead witches astonished me. I was awestruck.. I know it's kinda weird to feel like this. I can't help it, because I am die hard fan of klaus.
Lisette is a new turned vampire by none other than klaus. She had no fear for the originals. She planned strategies and helped the originals during the war. I am feeling epic while reading it. It was a awesome journey with the originals. Now I am eager to read the next book in this trilogy.

I had fun reading this book, but... it's far from perfect. The beginning was super annoying – the characters behaved completely not like themselves, especially Klaus. He was so different from Klaus we know from tv shows, he was like... a not very funny caricature.
After about a third of the book, we finally started getting some action which helped. The best were the last 100 pages – a lot happened and it was quite interesting. The decisions the Originals had to make, the things they had to do... I have to admit, that was done really well.
Even though I consider "The Loss" to be weaker than "The Rise", I still had a lot of fun reading it. I just don't consider it to be canon – the characters were waaay too different from those we met in tv shows and I just can't skip over this. For me, this book is... a pleasant non-canonical fanfiction.

In the second installment of The Originals prequel trilogy, Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah Mikaelson realize how quickly they can fall from the power they worked so hard to secure. The nuances built in the first book continue over in this sequel, leaving every plot point full of excitement and power. Rebekah, hoping to relax and mend, and Elijah, happy in his place of peace, have their world shaken as Klaus, desperate and grieving, makes a bargain that will change everything.

While Rebekah and Klaus got a strong dose of romance in the first book, Elijah gets a chance at love now. His character, full of so much nobility and loyalty, shines in this story, and his own darkness comes out as he steadfastly fights to keep his place and his family in tack. The new character, Lisette, fits nicely among the family and brings a new element of hope for both Elijah and Rebekah. Meanwhile, Klaus’s character encounters realistic grief, sacrifice, and a growing knowledge that his actions to have consequences for himself.

The rich world of vampires, werewolves, and witches is rich with detail, though I do wish there was a little more building of 1766 New Orleans itself. However, the world within the supernatural is wonderfully drawn, and it is easy to get caught up in the lines of war and peace between all three groups, especially as a new creature starts to emerge.

Fans of this series will devour this second installment and leave the story eager for the conclusion. The Originals family is one readers won’t soon forget with each of the member’s distinctive personality and lethal surroundings.

Honestly I wasn’t feeling this book at all. The characters just weren’t themselves.
The Original siblings made a pact “remain together always and forever” is the famous saying. After a hurricane destroys the Mikaelson’s city, they have to rebuild New Orleans and it’s glory. One thing is for sure Klaus Mikaelson wants more power, a witch casts a spell and a bloodbath begins.

Rebekah actually shows maturity which being the youngest of the two she was never one to be mature. Elijah was always the one to take care of his crazy siblings, but yet it’s Rebekah.

Elijah gets development, but honestly not that much. Although Klaus lost his love interest Elijah gains one which is surprising because Elijah usually has to look out for his brother.

Klaus is in mourning, but his character has completely changed. He’s this lovable asshole who you hate because he’s egotistical and evil, yet he is less broody.

To sum this book up it’s literally countless bloodbaths. I wish I was joking, but the amount of times someone fought and died in this book was over the top. I get the Mikaelson’s kill, but you don’t need basically half of the book to just be death, death, death. We would actually like to see some sibling bonding like they did in the show.
