i won't lie, i HATE reading a digital book so my reading experience was somewhat different than i would have liked it to be but this book is, was, and will continue to be incredibly powerful! i will always always always value an honest depiction of race and what it feels like to be a black girl in a pwi and the plight of starr and khalil is so emotional i just felt so connected to the book

Powerful and emotional. White people will never know what black people go through, but this book helps understand.

The author does a great job of bringing her characters to life by their little mannerisms. I've not read many books where the characters felt so real.

I can't think of a good thing to write about this book that hadn't been said before.
I live in a country where there are not a lot of POC and to me, issues their communities face around the world are not tangible.
This book made me smile, cry, cheer on, and swear like a sailor. It has a very approachable way of such a heavy and disgusting subject and manages to paint an exquisite portrait of people, places, and culture.
I was afraid I missed the train because I read it only in the summer of 2022, but this will definitely become a classic.

I finished this book years ago, by that I don't remember which year, so my memory of this book is not the best. But I do know, that I would definitely recommend this book, it was such an emotional read that I remember it quite fondly. Overall, from what I remember of the story, is that it has a strong message of treating people equally and giving everyone a chance. This is an important message that was presented in a way that was quite graceful while also being powerful at the same time. We all deserve a chance to live a peaceful life and not to be held down by some negative stereotype that really shouldn't exist.
