I found this be a wildly okay book. I would more accurately rate this 2.5 stars. This is a fight club copy-paste, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad (or good).

I really enjoy psychological thrillers. So this sort of genre/topic already gets an automatic 2/3 stars from me. I found the plot to be extremely predictable. I thought the characters were just fine, but Flynn can be quite annoying outside of dealing with a crippling disease.

The part I loved about this book though- the audiobook. I did not read this in print, and that apparently allowed me to avoid the punctuation irregularities and grammatical issues. The production of the audiobook is excellent. It has music, background sounds, and is read by Bobby Hall himself. It was really well done and is probably what allowed me to enjoy this more than most.

Overall, the most terrifying piece of this story was that it often felt like I was reading Hall's memoir, not a fictional story about a schizophrenic man. I had fun reading this, even though it's not entirely unique or a stunning piece of literature.

I think if I gave this book anything more than 1 star, I would be doing it only because Logic wrote it and that’s kind of cool. But in reality, this book is one that was clearly only published because a famous person wrote it, not because it’s good. In the acknowledgements at the end, he admits he wrote this book after binge reading a couple of novels for the first time in his life in his 20s and thinking he could write one himself. Well, you definitely wrote something. But there’s much more to be refined.

A couple of things that stood out to me making this one of my least favorite books (I rarely give 1 star ratings):

- Mia as a character in general is just sad for women. Come on, what woman would really be this loving and kind and supportive in this situation?

- It felt like in every other paragraph there was a comparison to something in pop culture. Rather than creating original characters, he would just say his mom is like the one in Bob’s Burgers because she’s so loving. That’s the best you could do?

- The breaking of the fourth wall felt unnecessary and like a stretch for originality and creativity.

I hate writing negative reviews because the fact that someone wrote an entire book is awesome in itself and I never want to tear anyone down but this one didn't work for me.

Wow, the hate in the reviews. This is not a difficult read, knocked out in an afternoon, but I have read other books with poor writing and this just isn't. For it being short, I was invested. Yes, I saw it coming, but still interesting story. There can be more than one book with an unreliable narrator, and I think he did a great job.

I'm not a big logic fan, just like good stories.

Is Bobby Hall actually just a college student who just read Fight Club or Stranger Than Fiction for the first time in his life and said, “I could do that”? Because that’s the vibe I got reading Supermarket. While the premise is intriguing, it was full of plot holes, and read like it was written by a young adult in a creative writing class who just discovered Palahniuk. Not only was the story cliché, but I could see the twists coming from a mile away, almost as if it were on purpose (though I don’t think it was). The switching between tenses also bothered me. I really wanted to like this. The plot showed promise. But all-in-all, I’d call this book sloppy, and not unlike many books I’ve read before.

Part One went slow and felt poorly written, which I guess was partially the point. Part Two definitely made up for it and kept me reading. 3 stars because I almost gave up on the book during Part One.
