This book had the basic outline of being a good book. I typically enjoy books that are written in this format, switching between the past and present. However, I thought it was just trying to be a good plot, not actually a good plot, if that makes sense. I thought it was predictable at some points, but the plot didn't make sense at other points. It seems like the author found a genre that sold and tried to emulate it, but wasn't able to actually execute her plan for telling the story. I'm still unclear what exactly happened in the ending, though I was able to see the ending coming. It was an okay read, but wouldn't say I loved it.

Even though this book had a 3.47 rating, I gave it a 4. I really enjoyed this book. Reading the reviews, I didn't think it would be this good. Would definitely recommend it.

fuck you dean
im only 1 minute into the film and i know it's going to be bad thanks reese witherspoon

Well once again I'm in the minority of a popular book. I'm supposed to feel something: anger, sympathy, understanding. We have a 14-year old girl who gets herself in some bad situations, things that no girl should find herself in. And then those things lead up to more tragic events. I think if Ani would have had a better relationship with her parents, and if she wasn't so unlike-able, I may have felt differently. But to me it was just....Ugh...I'm surprised I managed to finish this. I thought there may have been a redeeming quality at the end. Wrong again.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️2.5⭐️ I didn’t love this book & I didn’t hate it. The two & a half stars are as neutral as I think I can give. Can be triggering with the main plot involving a shooting at a school & the trauma that follows the MC through the rest of her life.

Kept me riveted from the get-go. Dark, violent, depressing, intense, but ultimately empowered. Understandably flawed characters.

I have been annoyed, irritated, neutral towards a lot of books. I have never ever HATED a book this much. Not even twilight part 1[yes, I admit I read it]. Apologies to the author, I just learnt that she has written from her past experiences, but it would be very sad if she has grown into the woman she talks about in the book 'Ani'. I cringe even saying the name, 'TifAni' is even worse! This grown woman is everything, every self respecting woman wants to distance herself from - extremely superficial, snarky, bitchy and oh so shallow. She has zero substance and the entire book is a whine fest. I told myself that this must be Satire, how else does one explain such vapid writing? Perhaps that is why its on the best seller list and I'm too much of a dumb-head to see through that. Alas, that was not the case, it was just a badly written character. It made me doubly sad because such women DO exist, the ones who ridicule others just to feel superior and smug, who judge women based on dress size, a size 8 cannot eat a muffin! Praises when you start looking like death warmed over. Are you kidding me! When there are young people out there, struggling with body image issues, this kind of writing is irresponsible and should not be encouraged. Thought I highly doubt 'Ani' is going to be anyone's inspiration. 0 stars if I could.

I need to do more research on this, but I'm not sure what the author was trying to do with her messaging around
rape
I didn't like the characters at all, but the story line was gripping in parts so I always looked forward to picking the book up.
