I love John Sandford and I ADORE Virgil Flowers. Another terrific read!!
4...Not as good as the last one, BUT still a hit! I don't know why I can't get into sniper novels, like this!? Only one left...And that ending!! Yaay!!
My ankles are swollen from all the sodium in the chicken pot pies Virgil consumed n Wheatfield.
Liked the story line and the typical Sandford method of keeping the reader in the dark on the identity of “the killer”. Not his best - but enjoyable.

I just thoroughly enjoy John Sanford's books. Love the way the characters interact with each other, love that his investigators make mistakes and are extremely human. I read a 'Prey' mystery and like Lucas Davenport the best, but then I read the next Virgil Flowers and know I like him the best! So no losing here. I think the Virgil Flowers series is a little less bloody than the Lucas Davenport books, and maybe that does make it my favourite. The two series interconnect quite often, but not this time. My one quibble would be that I thought there were not enough clues to help the reader work out the villain of the piece.
Virgil goes to a small town to investigate some shootings at a church where visions of Mary have been recorded and things start to get complicated. This one doesn't feel quite so formulaic as others in the series which is a good thing but it takes a long time to get off the starting blocks and get interesting. It feels like a genuine mystery, but one where the author is having a little too much fun with the characters to worry about keeping the story on the straight and narrow. As with other novels in this series, the MacGuffin - the visions - is dealt with briefly and really only features as backdrop to the real action, which this story has in spades. Fun but not gripping.
Love Virgil Flowers. Great audiobook....Mankato , blue earth and fairmont this time,
