I am not sure why, but I struggled to get through this book. I enjoyed book 1, but book 2 was a bit slow for me even though there was so much going on.
At first, I hated Kirsi's POV, she was very woe-is-me (understandable, but still annoying). As I went further through the book and she became stronger and had more resolve, I didn't hate it as much. I definitely didn't expect as much action as there was, but I really enjoyed it. The beginning felt soooo long, but it was so worth it in the end.

Now listen-I did like this book, but I do have a bone to pick.
❗️SPOILERS❗️
One thing I hate when it comes to magic books is when the main character ends up sacrificing their power for the greater good. I know Bastian gave her a necklace that allowed her to do some magic, but it’s not the same.
Raven had to give up being the most powerful witch to save the world.
Also I wish we saw a little more of their happily ever after. I swear it was only 2% of the book.

My first ever DNF.
The review:
As soon as I saw this book available on kindle unlimited, I jumped right into it because the last one left off on such a cliffhanger that I wanted to know what would happen next.
In the beginning, we are thrust into the human world with Grey, Raven, and Kirsi as a wraith. The mood sucks for obvious reasons. The plot at this point felt really one dimensional to me. Very predictable; it lacked depth. The characters were all in a place where their actions and emotions were driven by outside circumstances.
Everyone knew Grey and Bastian were one and the same. This was revealed in a really cliche way and didn’t really add to the plot at all. At least, it didn’t feel like it was properly executed in a way that created angst for the two MCs.
The story just feels rushed and overly complicated. By 20% of the book, I’ve been introduced to way too many new characters and I couldn’t even keep up with the characters from the first book. They’re written in like I’m supposed to be familiar with them but I have no idea who they are.
I forced myself past 60% when I finally realized I’ve been avoiding reading (one of my favorite pastimes) because I just couldn’t stand this book. I literally could not care less about what happens next.
