A big let down after how good the first book was. If you love the first book, I’d recommend just not picking this up at all. It was difficult to get through.

hate the trope where the heroine gives up her power to save the world, love that bastien got her power back for her in the end 💖

This was almost a dnf but I had some hope because I liked book 1 so much.

But this was like a completely different book. All of the relationship dynamics changed and a bunch of new side characters were pushed into this "found family" situation that just did not work. The characters all had potential and I liked them, but there was just no build up. It felt forced.

As for the plot, it also had potential but it felt like the rules kept changing. Or they were never established to begin with. There were so many other actions and plot twists that would have made more sense. And after a while, I just started losing trust in the story because it seemed like any random thing might happen. And I wasn't wrong.

Overall, this was really disappointing. I was glad to have the Kirsi POV though.

Excellent ending

I have been waiting for this book, and I was not disappointed. Love that I couldn't guess everything. I loved how the story ended.

Just not feeling it. It feels like it's strayed far from the plot line it should be on based on the last book.

I really like the world and the characters. I think the book has a pacing problem, it truncates a lot to get to the end. There were two books worth of story here, one book about their journey through the human lands and the other about the war with the covens. But because we have two books slammed into one neither story feels like it gets as fleshed out. Like the seeker dude, that was really interesting, why waste that opportunity? Why kill Nikos off at the mid point? The covens being destroyed doesn’t feel as weighty because we don’t know the witches there or have relationships with them. All of that to say I enjoyed it and really just want more.
