I couldn’t put this book down! So many emotions, but SO GOOD!
I think this one was the best of the three so far. This series was really lacking when it came to the whole Rebels plot line, though. I felt like nothing was resolved besides the fact that Maxon and America got married. But I still kinda liked this.
*1.5
These are the most vanilla characters in the world. And I have so many thoughts.
--minor spoilers ahead--
1.) Why were there so many threads to the story that just led no where?? Like, what was the point of America rescuing Paige and giving her a job in the kitchens, if she never showed up again? You did this for what?? Why was it mentioned that America could speak 3 languages in the first book, only for that to never come up again?
2.) Maxon and America's relationship is neither interesting, nor compelling, nor a couple I saw that NEEDED to end up together. Which I guess was partially the point since America explains at some point in the series that she would've still been fine if they didn't get married but like. I didn't care about their boring conflict, America's back and forth, etc... etc.... The stakes also weren't very high because we KNEW they would end up together (ofc the girl would end up with the prince lmao), so I didn't care for all of the random drama.
3.) Okay, so they're vanilla and boring and whatnot, but can we talk about how Maxon was so angry at America when he found out about Aspen. Like, that entire interaction felt like a red flag to me. He couldn't calm down enough to listen to her and it just. Oof. Not the kind of person I would want to end up with. Also, there was almost no point to that scene besides drama which leads me to another point...
4.) There were so many moments where "this important thing happens" but wait, jk no it doesn't. Maxon was angry, the rebels shoot at a bunch of people, then Maxon isn't angry anymore. Then what the point? Why create these situations? Just to create drama? Oof.
5.) Oof. I appreciate the attempt at diversity, but this is the most basic conflict I had ever seen in my life. Why did the ASIAN GIRL have to be the one with all of the family expectations. We didn't need to see such boring, overdone conflict. The one POC we had felt like a giant stereotype.
Final thoughts: It's kind of like a guilty pleasure read, where you know it's so bad, it's kind of good. That being said, I'm glad I got the books from my library because I would've been pissed if I spent money on them.

I’m so irritated.
THIS WAS A FLUFF SERIES. IT SHOULD’VE HAD A FLUFF ENDING.
What did we get instead? We got a book full of “I love him but I want him to say it first” and “I knew it wasn’t love! This is why I love Aspen” until the last five seconds when suddenly the author was like, OH YEAH LOL GUESS I SHOULD WRAP THIS WHOLE SELECTION/REBEL THING UP. She rushed through all of that and then cheated us out of the big choice moment WE ALL HAD BEEN WAITING FOR. She just skipped all of it and then it was over.
I’m also annoyed that I endured three books of winking, interruptions right when a character is about to reveal something, America getting mad over nothing and storming out of the room, and THE FUCKING NAME “America” ALL FOR NOTHING.
I’m even more annoyed that I’m annoyed. I knew from Chapter 1 of the first book that this series was going to be dumb fluff and YET I STILL GOT ATTACHED TO IT. UGH, I AM A MORON.
I’m not reading the next two. I refuse. I’m not doing it.

Once again, The Selection series is not a "deep" book series, but it's highly entertaining. In the final story of this series where America is the main character, we get a nice (while mostly predictable) ending, with a few little twists I didn't necessarily see coming. If you're looking for high-level reading, I don't suggest this, but if you're looking for something light and entertaining, look no further!
SPOILERS AHEAD
I read this book in two sittings, that's how much I wanted to read it and loved it. I think this cover is my favorite out of the three. I was actually a little angry while reading this book. I was angry with America for not admitting her love to Maxon. And I was upset with Maxon because he kept getting mad at America. I wished there was more time for them to be a cute little couple. I think their engagement was too later in the book. Also, I'm upset with everyone who died. I don't understand why Queen Amberly had to die; I don't think it was fair... I'm fine with the fact that the King died, though, because I didn't like him one bit. I understand why America's father had to die, but that doesn't make me any happier with it. I'm happy that all the selected girls started to get along better.
I'm mostly happy with the epilogue. I do wonder where Anne went; I hope she didn't run away because Aspen chose Lucy; I thought that was cute. I also wonder why Lucy retired from being a maid. I'm happy that Marlee gets to be one of America's maids.

Spent the last 30% giggling and gasping and screaming in rotation and ben told me I was being embarrassing but I won’t apologize for that
They were fun but lots of things that didn't get developed. Quick read. I feel like it all could have been one book.
This was definitely the best of the three books of the America/Maxon saga and a cute way to wrap up their storyline, though I see there are more books in this series, it seems they follow a different heroine.
The story is cute and easily wrapped up with a nice little bow, as is to be expected with YA, though the overarching series does tackle the issues of social justice, classism and entrenched values in a way that young teens can understand. I do feel like America was seriously The. Worst. though and I often found her to be annoying, but I was pulling for Maxon more than anything. I really wish the author had flushed out the northern rebels storyline though, and I hope that future books do!
