Let me start off by saying, I did NOT expect to like this series so much. Let me also say, I will not be reading the other two books in this series because I don’t want them to taint my image of these books. I simply adored America. In the first book, she was alright, but I really loved how she stood up for what she believed in, in the second and third book. She’s headstrong, beautiful, and kind. Although I feel her relationship with Maxon started off too quickly, I loved the romance. His confessions (especially the letters) were so heartfelt and beautiful. Maybe that’s just the hopeless romantic in me. Anyway I love these books
Ok. I read the first three and will probably read the last two but can’t we have a cool girl without whining and a love triangle?!
Fellas, I am done reading these dumb books. There are two more and I simply cannot. It's just a will-they-won't-they trope stretched over three books with a handful of half-assed additional plot devices to make it moderately interesting. I'll cut the book a little slack since the main character is 17, so it makes a little more sense that she's so immature, but even most teenagers aren't this exhausting. Tapping out.
MUCH better than the second one... Which isn't really saying a whole lot.
However, I would say this is the best book in the series as it's the most engaging.
The series as a whole didn't do a whole lot for me, though. If you're looking for adventure AND romance, you'd probably be better off finding a series that focuses more on the actual revolution rather than playing with a cool concept but never really developing it.
The book itself gets four stars, the series gets three.

There are a few things that let me down in this third book. First, i feel like the ending is very rushed. There are some loose ends and some details that deserved more light:
But regardless, this book, this whole series, despite being predictable still managed to be entertaining. I felt like I was a child again, reading stories about princes and princesses, who, in the end will get their happy ending.
The plot of the whole series in general is not complex, Kierra Cass is not trying to create a complex distopian world for her characters. Instead, she focused on the storyline, the dramas, the feelings. I never aknowledged the fact that, sometimes, I just need a good plain old prince and princess love story. This whole series felt like a break between the heavy reading that I seem to be drawn into lately.
Althought this entertained me, i decided to leave the series there. I know there are two other books in the series but I feel like I got the closure I needed from Maxon and America.
Spoiler
Anna's story with Apsen is forgotten, the relationship with the Italians are not talked about enough and the king and queen's death felt meaningless. But regardless, this book, this whole series, despite being predictable still managed to be entertaining. I just grew so tired of America and all the infuriating back and forth between her, Maxon and Aspen. The ending was intriguing and hinted at more of the interesting underlying plot that I felt was missing for large chunks of this book.
I enjoyed this series! A really cute story. The pacing was quite different than I imagined. You truly don’t get into the actual revolutionary/politics aspects of the plot as much as I thought you would. But the romance was super sweet and I really appreciated that the characters were realistic. I think in these types of stories, characters can become insufferable if written in certain ways, and this book did not have that. I know there are sequels, but I want more of this time period!
3.75/5
Atlast... They lived happily ever after.
I was a little angry at some moments. But the ending compensated all of it. Really amazing. And yay Maxon won. Woohoo!!

I like this book. Sure I'd forgotten that it was written like twilight, that us to say, like fanfiction, but I still enjoyed the book. A solid four stars.
