- This was so much better than the second book. Better development, more happening, and more urgency. The love is still a little too unconditional for my taste, but ultimately really enjoyed the progression and story. On to book four!
lighthearted relaxing fast-paced

I was really hoping to read the changes in America life becoming more mature but there she was still in doubt and second-guessing herself.

My favorite so far of the series. The love triangle stuff got super annoying in this one but the resolution of it was funny in way due to being a bit different than some other teen series. Hard to explain without spoilers.

Update: Changing all these ratings to 2 stars because every time I think about this series, I just get angry.

I think I can say I definitely liked it considering I managed to start and finish it within a day. Granted it's a short book, but still.

The overall plot still annoyed me but I was glad at the lack of Aspen and America's indecision that ever so present in The Elite.

I think I liked this one the most out of all of them?
I do have to say, however, that I did not like how much death was present in this book and how America seemed to not even grieve one bit. Like...
Spoiler why is she more upset over almost losing Maxon than having her dad actually dead? Same goes with her "friend" Celeste.

Maxon is also a giant hypocrite. Like DAMN.

I'm grouping The Heir and The One together since they take place right after each other and I'm not trying to bloat my book count for the year. Overall the story was okay. Most of the selected men were pretty underdeveloped and somehow the story was still a little dragged out. I liked the first three books of The Selection series better than these two. I saw someone compare the series to junk food - little redeeming value but you just can't stop consuming - and I think it's a fair comparison.

it's been a while since I read The Elite so it took me a bit to get back in the flow. I forgot how delightfully quick these books are to read.

In general I enjoyed it. I personally feel like I'm getting a bit old for the angsty love story stuff but I'm reading team so it's my own fault. I've also been over the love triangle thing. luckily it wasn't really strong in this book. it only existed in America's head.

I feel like some of the Northern rebel stuff went by a little too quickly and not in depth enough. I wanted there to be a bit more to her discovering it after she found her father's note.

Not sure if I'm going to read the next books about America's daughter. We shall see.

The entire series was very easy to read (or to listen to, in my case), however on the overall, the books were just meah. Felt very drawn out. I think this whole series could have been a duology, if not a stand-alone. Huge chunks of the story can be easily cut and tossed out and nothing will be missed.

3.5/5 stars

The One by Kiera Cass is the third book in the Selection series and is the final book telling America Singer's story as the next two talk about her daughter.

If you don't know this book is a dystopian novel. It takes place in a world that every class is represented by a number. If you are poor your number ins a higher number. So the ones, twos, and threes, are wealthy and every other number is not good. The main character America Singer is a five.

In The Selection the royal family is hosting a selection for their son Prince Maxon. America puts her name in the selection and to her surprise she is becomes one of the 35 contestant. It is sort of like the bachelor.

I found the ending very predictable and I managed to figure it out in the first book. It was very obvious who America was going to end up with. Again I feel like the love triangle is forced and unrealistic.

I still find the main character America Singer annoying again. I wanted to like her in at least one book, but it didn't really happen. I did not agree with most of the decisions that America made. I still was not a huge fan of Aspen, but I liked him more than the other two books. I started to like Maxon more as well but he is a very complicated character.

I can't say much because it is a sequel so I will say this series is a guilty pleasure for me. I highly recommend you marathon the first three books at least. It is a perfect series to read if you are in a reading slump.
