As She Fades

Abbi Glines

Another great book by Glines. Vale and Slates story was a good one, although the ending needed more meat. I also got annoyed with Vale on several occasions. Overall very engaging and emotional. Quick read that kept you interested.

Abbi Glines is one of those authors that bring nostalgia to me. When I fell off my reading back when I was 19, I read Fallen Too Far and I was sucked back into reading. Anytime I see that she is coming out with a new release I pre order it. I can’t help it.

I really didn’t want to put this book down once I started reading and when I did, my mind kept going back to it.

If you have read reviews for this title, then you know that you there is a twist in this book. If I thought I was invested before the twist came, you can bet your ass that I didn’t put this book down after it happened! You really can’t go into details of this story without giving anything away. Towards the end, I came to understand the need for that twist. It was really needed in the story and I hope everyone can appreciate it and understand it as well.

I will say that Vale had my heart. She was a sweetheart who is trying to get her life back on track after a tragic accident. This girl was brave and didn’t make her decisions lightly. I was so proud of her by time this book was over.

Overall, I enjoyed this so much and recommend if you like YA contemporary.

I have had some fair success with Abbi Glines in the past, so this one quickly made its way onto my list of anticipated releases. However, I was quite disappointed with this story as it was different than the synopsis leads you to believe.

As with all of her novels, this was a basic YA/NA contemporary that was a very quick read. In a contemporary novel, I expect the characters to carry the story - but too many of them were flat for that to happen. As I mentioned earlier Vale was fairly typical - blonde haired, blue eyed, girl everyone wants to be friends with - and I was more interested in her family than I was in her. Everything came easy to her, but she was unnecessarily dramatic.

Overall, this novel was very disappointing and I regret having pre-ordered it. If the synopsis caught your attention as it did mine, ignore it, because it is very misleading to what actually happens. I don't know if it was just ignorance or deception, but it was very inaccurate. I would recommend this if you don't have any other contemporaries to read this summer - quick read, but not completely worth it.

This was your typical Glines book until two-thirds into the book it took a 180 degree turn and never recovered, that is why the low rating.

It is graduation night Vale and Crawford are celebrating graduation, thinking back over the past and making plans for the future. In one moment it all changes. Crawford is in a coma and Vale spends here day at the hospital watching summer pass her by instead of living it. After much prodding from her family and Crawford;s controlling mother she is forced back to living her life, going off to college and making a future which may not have Crawford in it.

This is the story that makes Glines the author she is , and the book would of been a 4 or 5 star book until this horrible twist which changed the whole direction of the story. First it is dumped on the reader without any clues it was coming and we never got a why for it.

I am a huge Abbi Glines fan, like huge. And I have given most of her books 5 stars. I have also read most of them twice. But, this one wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad... actually it was a nice change from your normal romance novel. But, I just got so invested in the beginning that when I got to part two I went looking for the rest of part one because I wanted what was happening there to continue. I wish that there were more indications in part one. The plot had crossed my mind but 1/4 through the book I was like, "no way."

The twist earned this the fourth star but the ending was way too rushed.

2.5
I was really looking forward to reading As She Fades as it sounded like a book I would enjoy, unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. As She Fades is a story about letting go and moving on with your life, I really liked that both of these were strong themes present throughout the story. As She Fades is a story told in two parts with an unexpected plot twist in part two. The ending did feel a little rushed and confusing after part one.

The main characters felt a bit flat in places. Vale had a close relationship with her brothers and her parents which was great to read about. I loved seeing how close they were, and the family scenes were some of my favourite moments in the story. I found Vale to be quite a judgemental character at times and there is a lot of slut-shaming in this story. Slate was your typical bad boy with a heart of gold. I loved how close he was with his Uncle. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the spark of romance between Slate and Vale, I felt like everything happened very quickly in their relationship. I did like the early scenes in the hospital between Slate and Vale.

Overall, As She Fades is a quick read and one you may want to pick up if you enjoy contemporary romances.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan Australia for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! GAHHHH
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No

I rarely write reviews but I feel like I should warn people that want to read the book based on the description. The first 2 paragraphs of it, that does happen in the book. The last paragraph never happens, Crawford never wakes up with no memories of Vale. That's where the plot twist comes in and the book goes even more downhill from there. The first half was decent, not that greatest but readable. The second half felt way too rushed, the ending was weird and I just couldn't finish it quick enough. Also, the fact that every single woman, except Vale, threw herself at Slate is a complete joke. Seriously, 99.9% of women can control their hormones better than the women in the book were portrayed. I gave it an extra star because I liked the interaction between Slate and his uncle and I liked Knox.
