I don't know that I've ever been at such a loss for words yet so compelled to find them. Everything about this book is emotion. The characters, their adventures, the prose, every single word....pure emotion. I've honestly never read anything like it. Even the dialogue is written in such a way that you can't experience it as an observer, you're forced to feel every single interaction, the pain, the joy, the fear, the excitement, the shame, the curiosity...all of it. It's like...if someone asked me to imagine a story that makes me FEEL like Leonard Cohen's Dance Me To The End Of Love, it would be this story. I kinda want to lower the rating of all my other books just so this one can sit alone.

This book was actually decent but personally i did not enjoy it because there was too many sexual scenes for my taste.

While I did like the actual story line, I found the story telling chaotic. It would often jump between Rose and Pierrot sentence to sentence. I found it a little hard to follow. I also found the first half a little slow and the second half super quick. We knew Rose and Pierrot were going to find each other again but I felt that it took them too long to do this.

This book sat on my to-read list for a long time even though the cover pulled me right in. The story had me feeling so many emotions. The writing Is so beautiful, the depression-era Montreal history is fascinating, the subject difficult to deal with at times (orphans, prostitution, abuse, drug addiction) The tension between Rose & Pierrot as star-crossed lovers is both beautiful and tragic. I loved the way the theatre & performance wound throughout the book and the theme of the moon & stars was magical. The book had a different ending than how I expected it to end, and maybe it’s thrown me a bit. Overall I loved the story.

Ooof this one was hard to read but still so good!

Not for the faint of heart or prudes. It was incredibly crude and suggestive, but really about how your fucked up childhood can follow you into adulthood.

The writing, despite the explicit sexual scenes, was beautiful and I enjoyed the characters and general plot, even though some of it made me cringe.

I was originally going to give it 4 stars, but the last part where
Rose has the nun killed
made me happy so I bumped it up a half star for that.
