Just not in the mood, but plan to come back to it.
Ehh. The two authors made this feel choppy and disconnected. It felt flat and uninspired and I dunno. Maybe I’ll try it again later. But not for me now.
Ο Τζακ Σόγιερ είναι ορφανός από πατέρα, η μητέρα του -πρώην σταρ σε ταινίες β' διαλογής- πεθαίνει από καρκίνο και γενικώς οι προοπτικές του δεν είναι οι καλύτερες δυνατές. Αλλά, χάρη στον Κινγκ και τον Στράουμπ θα σταλεί σε μια μεγάλη αναζήτηση, θα ανακαλύψει άλλους κόσμους στους οποίους οι άνθρωποι είναι λίγο πολύ ανάλογοι αυτών που γνωρίζουμε, θα ανακαλύψει πλεκτάνες και συνομωσίες, θα μάθει πόσο χυδαίο καθίκι είναι ο "θείος" Μόργκαν, θα βρει και θα χάσει φίλους, θα αιχμαλωτιστεί και θα κερδίσει την ελευθερία του, θα πολεμήσει άδειες πανοπλίες και στο τέλος, μετά από ένα μακρόσυρτο φινάλε που κάνει τους αποχαιρετισμούς στην ταινία "Η επιστροφή του Βασιλιά" να δείχνουν βιαστικοί, σώζει τη μάνα του και πάει καλιά του.
Το βιβλίο έχει και τα καλά του στοιχεία, ιδίως στο κομμάτι όπου ο Τζακ και ο "λύκος" πρώτα διασχίζουν τον κόσμο του Τζακ κι έπειτα συλλαμβάνονται και κλείνονται στο περίεργο ορφανοτροφείο, αλλά, διάολε, μετά το 65-70% του συνολικού του όγκου, γίνεται τόσο φλύαρο και βαρετό που μια φωνούλα στο πίσω μέρος του μυαλού σου φωνάζει "ΛΗΧ' ΤΟ, ΣΦΥΡΑ ΤΟ, ΒΡΑΔΙΑΣΑΜΕΕΕΕΕΕ". Ίσως ο Κινγκ πληρωνόταν με τη σελίδα τότε, πράγμα κακό, γιατί αν είχε περιοριστεί κάπως σε έκταση, το βιβλίο θα ήταν σίγουρα καλύτερο. Φυσικά, ο μέσος αναγνώστης του Κινγκ, δε μασάει, θα το αποθεώσει και αυτό, θα καταπιει την τσίχλα του, θα βγάλει άλλη από το πακέτο και θα προχωρήσει...

So much great stuff in here -- loved the cross-country road trip, loved the entire cast of characters (Wolf is a new all-time favorite character from any book tbh), loved the strange mix of high fantasy / americana horror that only King could pull off, and I had a grand time pretending this was a gay coming of age story (and I have MANY thoughts on this that I won't get into here but just know that I'm right)
My only complaint is that the climactic final showdown in the hotel was too damn long. This is obviously a common complaint for a lot of Stephen King, but normally I get the reason for the length. But having the climax of the book last a hundred pages when it's pretty clear what the broad strokes of the ending are gonna be (I mean in a story of a 13 year old fighting good vs. evil what do you think is gonna happen) just slowed this down so much for me, to the point I was completely slogging through the most important action of the book. I also felt a lot of the scares in that section were just not very effective and didn't feel very earned, so it felt like a bunch of random gross stuff happening in the middle of the finale. But I loved so much of this book so I think I'm going to pretend like that section doesn't exist respectfully <3

I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as I thought I might. I assumed I would love it because of how much I enjoyed the dark tower series. I think alot of it is how much I dislike the characters. Richard and wolf were just too annoying I could barely stand reading scenes with them involved,even wolf dying to save jack didnt really do anything to make me like that character. You have richard and wolf who do nothing but whine and cry the entire book then you got jack whos 12 but talks like hes in college. What 12 year old calls his other 12 year old friend kiddo all the time? Honestly most the characters are unlikeable.
