“Reign of shadows” has a very unique and interesting storyline. There weren’t many plot twists but they were unpredictable. I liked the characters and the ending annoyed me but not enough to give a bad review because there is another book. Overall though the book was really fun to read.

Honestly, I just lost interest and decided to spend my time reading other things that interested me more.
I liked the premise and the retelling factor, but I think if I was younger I might have liked it more.

This book's one redeeming quality is the fact that the main character is blind. The fact that the narration we get from her point of view has nothing to do with sight makes this book interesting and different.
Aside from that, however, the world building was really not all there, the characters had little personality, and there was barely any plot. Also, the romance seriously came out of nowhere.
I really wanted to like this book, but I didn't.

This book encourages you to go for your dreams. You can do anything you put your mind to. The main character goes through many problems, but with determination overcomes them. Your own short comings don't have to stop you from success.- teen reviewer, Kayla B.
This is my first novel by Sophie Jordan. I have a couple arcs of some of her other books, but unfortunately I have not read them yet. I was pretty intrigued by this cover, because it's beautiful! I started reading it on my e-reader, and while I am not a fan of e-books, I could not stop reading this! It captivated me from the first page. I thought many of the aspects of this felt original, but some stuff felt cliche. I'm not sure if it is or not, but It felt roughly based on Rapunzel to me as well. Roughly, though. Anyway, I loved the characters in this story. There was Fowler. Fowler, man, he is one sexy beast. I loved Luna (and loved that she had a distinct flaw which in YA we usually don't find much of.) I loved how brave she was, though at times she annoyed me. I loved Fowler, might have said that already. I loved everything about him. The plot was always fast paced. There were places where I felt like a scene could have been cut or maybe something could have been added. The action was great, though, and the romance was both spicy and sweet. I loooved it. My only thing here is, I feel like the world building could have been built on more. We know several things about this world, but not enough. I think that the creatures (dwellers, large bats, tree wolf, etc) were all described well but maybe some different ones added to it would have been nice. I feel like this book was missing a lot of good pieces that could have been added to it to make it more rich. It was really great, but just adding a few more aspects of uniqueness to me would have made it that much better. I really enjoyed this book, though, despite my few complaints. I will definitely buy this in the flesh lol and add it my collection.
I do plan on reading the sequel to this of course! I give this one 4.25 stars, overall! I recommend this book! It's a reaaaally great, quick, very fun and exciting read.

This was my first book from this author. I had heard of Sophie Jordan's previous books, yet I didn't dare read them, mostly her "Uninvited" series. But after reading "Reign of Shadows" I will make sure to find more of her books!
"Reign of Shadows" could be easily a meeting between "Tangled" and the "Pure" series by Julianna Baggott. Luna lives in a hidden tower and Fowler is a ruthless hunter who tries to survive. When the circumstances force them to travel together, Luna will travel into a world full of darkness, monsters and secrets.
Now you'd think that this wold-building would be easy? No! Think again. Or maybe IMAGINE a world after an eclipse where there are few hours of daylight, then darkness comes and evil creatures, a mix between roaches and zombies (to my opinion) roam the grounds at night.
On the other hand, with no sun, there is no food, vegetation and the animals are forced to evolve into the new enviroment.
But it wasn't the world building that surprised me. It was Luna. Her condition (no spoiler from me), her abilities and her faith in goodness even in this bleak world was a rare ray of sunshine. Fowler really was grumpy and cynic and many times he wondered about Luna but everything between them was slow burning and very original. The double POV proves it.
The ending? The worst cliffhanger of all. This was the second time I finished a book which left me turning the pages back and forth making sure that there were others too! I will defenitely expect the next book praying for Luna and Fowler to survive.

Ugghhh. Okay, my opinion on this book is admittedly cynical and harsh. I VERY rarely read romances. I initially snatched this book up because it was marketed as a retelling of Rapunzel and I LOVE fairy-tale retellings. And, while containing some Rapunzel-esque motifs (a tower, blindness), this book is a romance novel and an EXTREMELY saccharine one at that. The heroine is okay, not stupendous but not completely disastrous. The hero is also mediocre and quite cliche. The setting and world-building is the best part of the book but the actions of the characters make them feel removed from the environment. Even in fantasy literature there must be some logic to the characters’ actions. There isn’t here and it is frustrating. Finally, (and this is just a petty, ultimately unimportant detail) the author chose to name the novel’s capital city Relhok. I’m big on names (and puzzles!) so I instantly realized that Relhok is Kohler spelled backwards. Once I saw it, I couldn’t stop picturing a city filled with faucets and toilets! Really! So, I truly am sorry if I have now ruined the book for you but maybe I’ll spare you the time to read something better.
I have mixed feelings. Luna was a little unbelievable as a character and not in a good way. And the book just stopped. It doesn't feel like a complete book, just part 1. Like I know it's a series but... I wanted more.
