His big shoulders hitch a little from a half shrug, his gaze leaving mine, just for a second. "Many women do what I tell them." He dips and circles his nose with mine. "But only you made the whole world disappear when you did." His mouth presses to mine. "Only you made me insane with want. Your face, your body. Only you have monopolized every thought in my head. Your wickedly smart mouth. Your fiery temper. The fact you've let me dismantle your high, protective walls." He laps his tongue through my mouth slowly and sofily. "Only you have made me wish more than anything that I could be a real fuckin' prince so I could serve you and support you. So I could be yours.”

I'm not going to lie, I got into this book A LOT more than I was expecting.

I normally read these 'romance' books as a quick read before bed as they're typically easy to pick up and put down as you wish. However, I was HOOKED!

I'm not going to spoil anything but the plot twist at the end wasn't what I was expecting at all. It threw me completely and I actually gasped in shock at several times. I had an idea that certain plotlines were going to happen and it threw me when I ended up completely wrong. I'm not sure if the hints are there to throw readers off but if they are, I loved it! These plot twists and false drippings of information aren't what I expect from romance books.

The characters are attractive, they make sense the way they work together and the chemistry is as explosive as expected.

Looking forward to the next book of the series and it'll be interesting to see how everything falls around Adeline, Josh and other characters.

On another note, I adore Damon, the secondary characters aren't annoying which I find at times, the conflict is understandable and the need to keep the royal family squeaky clean is convincing and truthful.

A princess locked into her role, miserable and alone, desperate to feel anything but alone. A Hollywood heartthrob that controls her in a way she cant let anyone else. But feelings have no place between them when the Crown will just take him away. How long can they keep their attraction a secret? How long can they deny their feelings? Its super hot, full of royal rules and royal a..holes, and I am diving right into the next one!

The Smoke and Mirrors Duology took over my life for a few days. I didn’t want to stop reading! I love stories with royals, and this will go down as a favorite of mine. I loved the forbidden love themes, the characters, and the pace of the plot. IT WAS SO GOOD.

Josh is THE book boyfriend. Ugh, the words that come out of that man’s mouth are gold

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.I love Royal family type stories, so I knew I would grab this one as soon as I could get my hands on it.  JEM has a way of creating some gloriously broken characters that draw you in.

Adelaine is the youngest of the King of England's children.  She also happens to the be wild child the paps love to follow and the tabloids love to write stories about.  None of that makes her life with the King any easier, but she's determined to have a small bit of control over something in her life even if it's bad press.  Enter her 30th birthday and hot American actor Josh Jameson.

I wasn't sure I liked Josh when he and Adelaine first get together.  It wasn't so much how dominate he was, but more like he was punishing her (and not in a sexual way).  But the more Josh was around, the more I liked him.  He wasn't the complete a-hole he came off as at first.  He falls hard and fast Adelaine and his natural instinct is to protect her, which doesn't always work when that woman is a princess.

Adelaine I really had a hard time with.  I could understand her feeling constricted by the life under the royal microscope.  But she went about bucking the system the wrong way and often made things much worse for everyone involved. Josh didn't cave to her, which was helpful, but she pushed him away constantly and feared her father than that using that backbone she pretended she had and stood her ground.

The book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, we won't have to wait long for HIS TRUE QUEEN, which comes out early August  I look forward to finding out what happens with Adelaine and Josh.
