Wow. So the first 100ish pages of this book are incredibly difficult to get through. I mean I had to basically force myself to read through the pages. There are so many characters switching back and forth between their point of views, it was very confusing. However, I am so happy I pushed through as the rest of the book was absolutely amazing. I had no idea what eugenics was nor had I known about it’s history in the US, specifically Vermont. How all of the characters are intertwined was truly fascinating; right until the very last few pages I was shocked over and over again. The ghost aspect was a little hard to get into it, but other than that the plot was captivating. Would definitely recommend even though it was confusing in the beginning.

Not my favourite of hers, but still, gosh I love Jodi Picoult.

Not my favorite Picoult novel, but there's some good stuff here. I wasn't familiar with the whole eugenics thing prior to reading this book. Appalling! Based on real events.

I liked this line:

"Men...were like an accessory, like a belt or purse or shoes. You didn't necessarily need one to complete your look. Granted, if you walked around barefoot you got a few odd stares every now and then, but the important parts of you were covered."

This one seemed to run a little slow for me, it took me longer to finish this one than others because I wasn't as engrossed in it as I usually am.

The story completely changes midway through to flip back decades in time and change perspective to be from Cecelia Pike. Seemed a little jarring, but I think the back story was necessary.

Not my favorite Picoult book.

I would have given this book a lower score, the end redeemed it a bit though. I found the first half of this book a struggle, mainly due to the amount of characters, it became difficult to keep up with who was who. Then just as you get to grips with the pace of the book, there's a huge change of pace in the middle. Worth it for the ending though, with the twists and turns you expect from Picoult.

Only Jodi Picoult could get me to like a sci-fi-ish book. I usually don't do ghosts.

Aha! Finally FINALLY finished this book. I really couldn't get into it at first, and I had to try several times. Once I made it through the first chunk, it became a much more interesting book. I think there is just so much exposition and character introduction that it's hard to know what's going on at first. Also, I never really liked Ross that much and he is the focus of much of the first chunk of the book. As the story develops and you get more in-depth understanding of the various characters, it becomes a much more enjoyable read.

Not on my list of OMG excellent Jodi Picoult reads, but it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it was.

This one started out slow for me. I initially had a hard time finding a connection between all the characters, and the supernatural elements were a little extreme at times (snowing rose petals, frozen ground in August, etc...hard to believe in an otherwise realistic novel). However, once I started to get more of Lia's story, I got hooked. In typical JP fashion, there are lots of twists and turns along the way, especially at the end. And she gives some interesting insight on the history of eugenics in the US, which I didn't know anything about. If you like the typical JP formula, this one fits right in.

A little predictable but a decent read.
