adventurous challenging dark

I think what I liked most about this was the re-settling after a catastrophe. I read it a while ago and haven't thought about it much since, but I do remember wishing I could find another like this, though I also remember thinking I wish it didn't feel like it was written by a romance author.

Different than the usual Nora Roberts fare I indulge in. But I think I liked it enough to read the second book.

I don’t know what idiot thought to compare this to The Stand but it is nothing but a pale reflection. I won’t even read the other two.

Wow! I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book, but let me tell you, you don’t want to miss it! This was far away from any Nora Roberts book I have ever read. There are intriguing relationships, there is love, loss, and strong, deep, characters that suck you in. There are a lot more people to sift though here, but it’s done in a way that is easy to follow.

In Year One, the world is brought to its knees by an infection known as The Doom. During the progression of this epidemic, some of the survivors have newly discovered 'abilities' whilst others set out to destroy what, and who, is left behind.

Two separate groups of survivors head out of New York to try to make contact with their families or to try to ensure their survival. They face many trials and tribulations along the way before settling in a town they christen New Hope. But Year One is just the beginning of the saga.

This book started off fast and pretty terrifying and best of all, apocalyptic. Characters that you just love (like Fred!) and fiercely hope to meet if bad times really do come to the world. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Post-apocalypse meets witches...who could ask for more? :) A perfect summer read.

I didn't know that Nora Roberts wrote more than Romance Novels until I stumbled across Year One at the College Hill Westminster Library. It sucked me in and held me fast to where I fell asleep reading it every night when I would go to bed promising myself that I would only read a couple of pages. I didn't dare reading it during the day because I *knew* wouldn't read only a page or two. It shows mankind's struggle after Doom strikes which turns ordinary people into fae and fantasy creatures both Good and Evil. They are all waiting for The One to save the planet and the evil are doing their best to destroy it and find The One before she is born and end her! It keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very end!

A nice blend of dystopian fiction with a smattering of high fantasy. Good summer read.

It took me more than 100 pages to get into the story, but once I was in, I was in! I breezed through the second half of the book in a few hours because who needs sleep when a story is that good?

Nora Roberts has been hit and miss with me these past few years. With so many titles under her belt, her newer stories and characters seemed recycled from the old, but Year One was different than anything I've read by her before and I anxiously await the next title in this series.

I loved this book! I can't wait for the second in the series.

contagion meets witches.
