September 2019 // This was a little different than a lot of her other books that I have read but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It definitely still has the magical element that she likes to add into her stories but it wasn't as straight forward a romance novel as her books normally are. But I enjoyed it quite bit for sure.

The Stand plus magical happenings...

Year One has caught my eye a few times. But I'm not a fan of Nora Roberts, my mother has always loved her writing and although I do think she's a phenomenal writer, I've never connected with her writing very well. Year One changed that. If you know my reading preferences, you know I love sci-fi/fantasy/post-apocalyptic books and Year One ticked off all my boxes. I think what I liked most was the alternating POV's even if that isn't my usual cup of tea. Year One is also fast paced so I hope book 2 comes out as fast as I read this book.

Wow. Just wow.

Let's start by saying I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts' newer books. I know a lot of readers aren't loving the direction she's been going in lately, but I think its great. This book barely felt like a Nora Roberts' book--I would NOT classify it as a romance. Sure, there were some romantic couples, but that doesn't count as romance. So it's a new direction & it's not romance---and I still really liked it.

The premise is interesting because most dystopian books are based post-event & we are in that new world from the start. This book walks us right through what happened in real time so everything feels immediate and urgent. I thought this was great.

I don't feel like this story had a main character, per se, for a lot of the book. It flashed between different groups until they eventually met up which was an interesting way to introduce us to the important players of this series. Lana was definitely a focal point, but I feel like was more tuned towards the end of the book.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I really wasn't a fan of the ending. I see a lot of other readers weren't loving the switch from Max to Simon & I agree. I like my main "love interest" to include two people, period. This wasn't a love triangle, but without giving anything away, I wasn't a fan. I LIKE Simon....I just felt like the end section from Fourth of July onwards felt like an abrupt switch from everything else in the book. It almost felt like a different book entirely. It was a five star book for me up until that abrupt switch. We shall see what the next book does to ease that ending for me.

I've never started a Nora Roberts' book before the rest of that series was already published--not on purpose, it's just always worked out that way. I am itching for book #2 to see what happens next!

Interesting take on the post-apocalype setting. I am curious to see how the fantasy/magic aspect gets explained in later books. Overall this book was an adequately good read.

A wonderfully engaging read. It is not a "typical" Nora Roberts. The magic is a little darker, more gritty. There is less focus on the romantic elements and more of a focus on the characters. I am very excited to see where she goes with this story. The seeds are planted for a deep rich conflict to save the world.

Re-read 2019... I think I enjoyed this one even more the second read. I was able to pick up many more little details, things that I hadn’t paid as much attention to in the first read. Really glad I read this one again before reading the next book

Re-read 1/2020.

What a great example of storytelling!

This is a book I couldn't put down! I've always loved Nora Roberts' stories, but this is my favorite by far. I can't wait to find out what happens next. I'm attached to the characters, and found myself holding my breath at points, and crying through their grief, smiling and laughing out loud with their triumphs.

What a wild ride! It’s heartbreaking and joyful and surprising…you find yourself rooting for characters who suddenly feel like family. Top notch.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Chapter 1 describes the start of the pandemic with a few supernatural references that made me look askance at the book. Chapter 2 started talking WITCHES. So bye bye book. (I will read an end-of-the-world because pandemic science-based book, but hate supernatural shit)
