Title Unrelated. His at night?! It vaguely relates to the story but not in any significant way. I enjoyed this story but I wished I could have seen more banter between the two main characters playing characters because it would have endeared them to the reader so much more. The "mystery" part of this story was convoluted and a bit blah. A good read, not great.
An enjoyable, ah, homage to the Scarlet Pimpernel. A super spy carries his cover persona to the extreme of faking TBI until the woman of his dreams forces him to revaluate his priorities. The absurdity of the premise somehow shifts into a completely plausible commentary on the cages we build for ourselves when we're too afraid to embrace freedom.
This was a pretty perfect romance audiobook for me. Not too steamy (because that is AWKWARD in my ears at work), Sherry Thomas's trademark quick-witted characters, Kate Reading's excellent narration, and a funny, and slightly suspenseful plot.
I know a lot of other reviewers complained about Lord Vere posing as an idiot, in order to fool everyone as a government spy. I liked it! It reminded me quite a bit of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Always love a little Sherry Thomas to entertain me - I particularly enjoyed the strength of the heroine. The audio was narrated by Kate Reading, which means I enjoyed throughly enjoyed listening to it.
I just couldn't get into this book. 100 pages in and I'm like WTH.

2.5 - There were some lovely bits to this book, Elissande is an interesting character and I think abuse and recovery are depicted well (especially how insidious emotional abuse is), but I had soooo many issues regarding consent, honesty, and the frequent awfulness of the hero (and also the muddle of him dropping his persona inconsistently and the very smart heroine not noticing) that I can't give this more than two stars. The first Sherry Thomas book I read also had MAJOR consent issues but I was hoping it wouldn't be a recurring theme because she is so highly recommended by so many, including Courtney Milan; it seems likely that's not the case.
I wanted to like this because the premise is really fun, but there were weird consent issues that popped up and really threw me off.
