I loved the Silo series and in contrast to many other reviewers I found ‘ Sand’ equally enthralling. I loved the concept of diving down through the sand to reclaim artefacts from the past. I think the plot was interesting and the characters were likeable and overall I found it a very enjoyable read.
I loved the Silo series and thought the writing was absolutely brilliant, keeping you on your toes throughout all three books. So, naturally, I was excited when I saw Sand in the book store; I didn't hesitate to buy it. Sadly, it was nowhere near as good as it's predecessors. I didn't find the characters particularly engaging and the world that was laid out was not of the same quality as that in the Silo series. Obviously it had 3 books to flesh out it's world but overall I was left unsatisfied, especially with the ending.

Not as good as Howey's Dust series, Sand is still a great read with very believable characters and a good, readable, believable plot.

I read this after reading the Silo series. Unfortunately it did not grip me as hard as those books. It does have an interesting story that is being told, and characters that really begin to be fleshed out. But the world building left me wanting. There were a few things, like the dive-suits, which the reader was expected to figure out. Which I did, but I was curious how this world came to be, why do they have dive suits at all. Still, an enjoyable story, with villains that come out of left field with a literal bomb. It's definitely a problem, but it felt so out of place in the post-apocalyptic world. I have enough juice left to read the sequel, I'm curious to see where the author could go from here.
A young adult-esque dystopian adventure story of 4 siblings struggling to live in a sand covered world. Great characters and lots of inventive action slightly let down by longer bits of not much. 3.5 rounded down.
This was an enjoyable page-turner and I hope he continues the story line with a sequel. It's a simpler story and cast of characters than with the Wool series, but still very imaginative and interesting.
