Fascinating. We take sleep for granted to our own detriment. We must make changes in society to help all of us live longer, happier, safer, more creative lives.

I picked this up during a time I did not sleep well, and it inspired me to focus on my sleep hygiene more. Then put this down for a while because sleep was okay (I was back home lol), and then picked it back up again when I was sleeping badly again (the US is stealing my sleep, I swear haha). I am glad I re-read this book because I now have a better background in Neuroscience and could understand some claims and explanations much better. I think I was also able to identify some places that might be over optimistic, but I still really like this book as the basis for anyone who sleeps on a daily basis (and especially for everyone who does not!). I found myself discussing this book with a few people and always got so many questions about why we sleep, how much one should sleep, and how to sleep better. It is a topic we are all affected by, yet we don't really know a lot about it. How come we aren't even taught anything about it in school, although sleep is literally one of the biggest contributors (if not the biggest!) to your overall physical and mental health! Go sleep more, my friends :)

Comments on this book say that some study results are reported with over confidence. So take extraordinary findings with a grain of salt.
But still the general message of this book is incredibly powerful and I am so glad I read a book on sleep. Of course, we all know that sleep is important. But this book explains why and what influences sleep even without us knowing. I think it is a very important read.
Please sleep more, people!

Super interesting and scientific. I recommend, but it's a hard read.
“When sleep is abundant, minds flourish. When it is deficient, they don't.”
Something 'as simple' as getting a good night of sleep turns out to have the potential to change the world. Of course, sleeping a full 8 hours a night is not so simple for many people.
Somewhere deep down I think we know how important and restorative sleep is, but I was not prepared for learning about all the tragic repercussions of humanity neglecting sleep for centuries. Lack of sleep impacts peoples lives negatively in more than just the obvious ways. Walker describes how sleep (or lack thereof) impacts our brain, heart, blood-pressure, relationships, work ethic, diet, productivity, safety and so much more. He offers solutions, alternatives and pointers for good sleep hygiene.
Truly groundbreaking and life-altering info on every single page.
I did fall asleep while reading this book more than once.
A well-written 5 out of 5 book. This book is somewhat threatening (for the endless possibilities of diseases we could've for the lost of underrated sleep), but also informative. It has a lot of information regarding sleep that will help you explain the importance of it regardless of what age you are—from sleeping pills, disorders, alcohols, etc. As someone who is really into "self-help" books, this falls into the work-smart type of productivity book. This well help you to understand the forgotten and also very beneficial sleep.

One of the most important books I have read in the last decade. I have always felt the importance and benefit of sleep on myself but I only now understand the intricacies of our sleep time and the ramifications of chronic sleep deprivation. Recommended for anyone who wants to improve the quality and timespan of their life. Should be a part of the school curriculum and reinforced at different life stages.
