A fascinating, albeit slightly flawed look at the science of sleep.
Dispelling myths and kicking Freudian dream analysis to the kerb, Walker also covers the growing understanding of the sleep deficit in the Global North.
Where the thesis starts to come apart, is the less well researched and understood impact on organisations and the economy. Lacking any clear studies to support it, the language becomes more opaque.

Quite educational book on how sleep works and why it's so important. Especially the parts about drowsy driving statistics. Some studies I found hard to trast since the sample size was so small so the noise is just too large. One extreme individual can easily skew the average outcome. I also don't like using percents to make something sound more serious. I prefer when authors use numbers consistently 500% more likely is exactly the same as five times more likely but just less dramatic. Still I highly recommend reading this book. I am not sure how much I would enjoy the book if I had problems with my sleep or if my work schedule required me working nights. Reading about all the bad things that can happen to you from the lack of sleep and not being able to change the schedule would probably be very depressing.

This book was very informative, but some of the claims were definitely not fully substantiated.
A lot of information to take in, but is helpful in explaining many aspects to how we spend 1/3 of our lives. Will likely purchase a physical book in order to flip through and focus on specific aspects of sleep.
Would highly recommend to others.

Super informative book about sleeping habits. Completely changed my routine after reading this book and grasped the fact of how important good sleep is.
ok matthew walker i get it. 8 hours of sleep a night from now on
Very informative and engaging!
Before reading this book I hadn't paid much attention to the subject of sleep except when I suffered a lack of it as a new parent some years ago. This book really put the spotlight for me on a pillar of health that is as important as exercise and diet! Well written with engaging scientific explanations!
