I really enjoyed this one! I heard about it through Karla Sorenson’s newsletter and I had never heard of this book or the author, but the blurb really pulled me in.

I am a sucker for fake dating romances, so this was right up my alley. And it adds in the spice of it being a sports romance as well, which I really liked! I thought the chemistry between the two main characters was done really well, and was super realistic. I appreciated the touch of the FMC reading spicy novels & having the MC read them so he knew what she liked… setting the bar a little bit higher for men everywhere.

Also, can I just say, THANK YOU to Kandi Steiner for not including a pregnancy epilogue! I really have come to despise them because they’re in almost every book I read nowadays and it was so nice to not have that in this one.

Clay Johnson & Giana Jones
I had a hard time eating this book. The first 70% was good, then it kind of went off the rails into cliche stupid plot lines. It probably would have been a 4.0 or 4.25 star book based on the first 70%. I thought Clay & Giana had a lot of chemistry and their spicy scenes were hot. Clay reading romance novels to understand what Giana likes was so adorable. But the contrived conflict and breakup was so dumb and the solution and grand gesture was dumb as well. I did enjoy the found family in Clay’s teammates Holden, Zeke, and Riley. Zeke & Riley we’re from book #1 and Holden is next in book #3.

This book is a fake dating college football romance. It starts off almost exactly like The Deal by Elle Kennedy - the nerdy girl and the jock start fake dating to make other people jealous.

The main characters definitely had chemistry and I liked seeing them together but the author really lost me at the third act breakup miscommunication… it was so dumb. Once that happened, I was just ready for the book to be done but it just kept going 😩 also the way he got her back was… cringe.

At the end of the day this scratched my fake dating/angsty itch. It’s nothing groundbreaking but it did what it needed to do.
