This book was creepy and great until the very last page. Beginning as what seems to be a thriller quickly becomes a murder of the past. Sleeping murder. They say to let sleeping murder lie, but who can resist a little investigating? But, there may be dire consequences if the murderer thinks they will be revealed.

Miss Marples "last case", but actually written during the London Blitz. Christie wrote the conclusions to the Poirot and Marple series at that time, in case she did not survive the war. They would not be published until after her death in 1975.

IMHO, the "final" cases of both Marple and Poirot are some of Christie's best work. Definitely must-reads for any serious Christie fan.

This was my chosen Agatha Christie book for December, having read one a month again in 2024. I have been reading one Agatha Christie book every month since 2020 and I've got a long way to go before finishing reading all her books.

I very much enjoyed Sleeping Murder, a Miss Marple mystery. There are, as always, quite a few characters who could have committed the crime that took place 18 years ago, but was it a crime or a disappearance?

Like Gwenda and Giles, the couple who are doing the sleuthing with some input from Miss Marple, there were two people who had very good reasons to misbehave. And then, halfway through the book another possibility which wasn't mentioned came to the back of my mind. What if? But why? Really? Wow.

It was a really good whodunnit.

Who do you prefer as a mystery solver? Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot ? In the last year, I have come to enjoy Miss Marple's mysteries more as I sometimes find Poirot rather annoying?

Rating only for Murder At The Vicarage cuz I’m trying to read them all in order.

I REALLY thought I’d figured out who the murderer was this time, and I hadn’t AGAIN hahah. I found this Miss Marple addictive to read, definitely better than The Murder at the Vicarage, but not quite as good as the other 3 that I’ve read so far. The reason this one wasn’t as good is bc although as usual we only find out the truth at the end, normally Miss Marple does something with her extra knowledge- maybe to expose the murderer somehow, getting some hard proof - but this time, it had already been figured out and Miss Marple just said that she had known for ages - not quite as helpful of Miss Marple as usual!

Enjoyed re-reading this after a lapse of 40 years or so.

A textbook Agatha Christie piece, words just flow through like a river. Such an easy read that can be finished over a tea. But, as far as mystery factor goes, its one of the weaker ones where you figure out the killer from the very beginning. Not a bad novel, but not her best works either.

3 - 3.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this! It’s both so different yet so similar to the film adaptation. While I definitely prefer the book version of this story, I think the TV take had some really good twists of it’s own that really suite the story and really add to the red herrings; the two wives being the same person, the funny bones troupe. But I like in this that Giles and Gwenda are actually married and are having a husband and wife little crime solve together - works much better than Giles being her Fiancé’s assistant or whatever that pointless and forced romance side plot was in the film.

All the secrets and Gwenda’s flashbacks uncovering things when they first get to the house was so cool and really pulls you into the story from the get go.
