I kind of wish I read this book as part of a literature course. It is kind of surrealist, and there’s so much to unpack and discuss. Definitely not a straightforward read or story at all, but it was well written, impactful, emotionally wrenching, and uncomfortable.

Beautifully written and read by the author,  however, the content was really tough to hear and I'm not in a head space to listen right now. I may revisit this in the future.

My one star should not be taken as a judgement on quality - Split Tooth is an interesting and deeply unique literary experience. Just soooo not my jam!

The throat singing in the audiobook is pretty cool though. Not enough for a second star, but neat all the same.

I certainly don’t regret reading this book but it was a hard read. Part poetry, part memoir, part supernatural fiction... lots going on and at times I was lost. Maybe I’m just not one for allegory.

The poetry alone, however? Now THAT is worthy of full stars. I so appreciate Tanya Tagaq for sharing the hidden pieces of what life can be like for Aboriginal youth in Northern Canada.

What might seem at first to be a straightforward memoir of childhood abuse quickly becomes much more. The narrator's spiritual and poetic handling of the story is a wonder to read.

This was not at all what I expected. It was chaotic, timeless, and strange. I liked it, but I'm not entirely sure I understood it.
