I started the book in an airport bookstore, passed it up & checked out several of Marianne Williamson's books from the library instead (she wrote the intro to Spirit Junkie & was the author's inspiration). I believe those books have helped me set a whole new course for life, that's how fabulous they re. Then I came back to Spirit Junkie and it did not disappoint. Loved the youthful approach and the personal stories, one is especially inspirational for me, many many relatable parts, at times a little self-aggrandizing for my taste, but hey, that's who she "was", so I should not judge right? LOL. I love the whole concept of being a "spirit junkie" and the new-age-y and hipster language. Fun and inspriational.

This book is packed with tools and inspirational stories to help you let go of the internal thoughts and practices that are holding you back and feel more joy and connection in your life.

It's kind of a much more palatable and modern form of the book A Course in Miracles by Marianne Williamson which can be a little hard to read. Written in such a way as to be applicable for both religious and non-religious people looking to add more love, joy and spirituality to their life. I really liked the meditations and writing exercises in this and they are something I plan to refer to again in the future.

Content Notes:
- Language: mild swears
- Discusses drug additions

Skews a bit young for me with a level of focus on men and relationships that would expect from an author her age. That aside, I found this book to be very useful at showing me alternative ways to view life. Very new agey but I'd rather live within Bernstein's version of reality than stay stuck in negativity.

I can see this being an effective training in shifting your mindset when you're ready to make that sort of change. I'm not there quite yet.

I can't tell whether this book needed a lot more editing or if it just wasn't for me; I found myself getting bored after 120/150 pages. A lot of the information here was repetitive and the constant mention and referral to "the course" felt like I was reading fanficition. Over all, Spirit Junkie was just "okay." Nothing spectacularly fabulous or spectacularly disastrous. Just meh.

The simple ways that Ms. Bernstein presents shifting your mindset are easy to understand and implement if you are willing to do the work .

One of my first adventures into audiobooks, I found this book to be extremely helpful, calming, and inspirational! I liked that the meditations were so accessible as I felt guided through them by just being able to listen to the book. A helpful read for those looking to really step into themselves and take charge!
