Wolves of the Calla

My favourite of the series so far. Stephen King, I say thankya. One of the things I've loved about this series is how it almost wantonly crosses genres. This book exemplifies that: fantasy, horror, sci-fi, mystery, suspense, crime novel and Arthurian legend all rolled into one. Inside, you'll find old western gunslingers, sassy New Yorkers, an Irish Catholic priest, vampires, undead zombies and a robot.

You'll see the homage to 'The Magnificent Seven' straight away, but it's not the only homage. The threads and overtones keep weaving through in more and more detail. The tension builds to a rip-roaring finale that won't leave you disappointed, say true.

A minor bump along the path of the Beam

i’m astonished that i read this tome in under two days…. definitely one of the fastest reads of a king book i’ve done! i have to say, i was scared of this book. mostly due to the mixed reviews and how special books 1-4 are to me. i didn’t want to be let down. i was so scared i waited almost two years after reading book 4 to finally get to this one and i’m so glad that it did not disappoint. i’m actually kicking myself for not reading this sooner.

while wolves of the calla doesn’t really move the overall arc of the story further, it does do some incredible character development and really tests the bonds of our ka-tet. king also provides some insane imaginative worldbuilding. i seriously don’t know how he continues to be so innovative with this series! excited to continue!

This book has every characteristic a great book needs. It's even better because it's the 5th book of a series: we have learned a great deal about the characters by now, and we've learned to love them, and understand them. And yet, we are to know them better in this book. That's the work of a master storyteller.

I’m running out of words to accurately describe the wonder of this series. How often do you get to the fifth book in and still find you’re hanging on every word, desperate to find out what happens next but not wanting it to end .....? This book brings our ka-tet to a small village that is plundered for it’s children every couple of decades and the locals wouldn’t dream of trying to stand up for themselves against the Wolves from Thunderclap. But all is not as it might seem, and there are questions to be answered - should they trust Andy the messenger robot, why is time shifting differently here, is Callaghan the preacher one of them, who is in control - Susannah or Mia, daughter of none? Truly amazing series, I can’t wait to read the next!

Wolves of Calla makes up for whatever it was that the Wizard and Glass (#4) was. I enjoyed the suspense leading up to the end and all the side stories that seemingly foreshadowed the events to come in this book and the next book..and other books written from Stephen King.
adventurous medium-paced

Much better than the previous volume, this book got back to the coterie of main characters, tied in elements from the previous books masterfully, and introduced new elements in the final pages that left me reeling in anticipation for the final two books.

AND King made a Harry Potter reference. It was awesome. Worth the journey alone.
