"Wanna get haunted?")

This is the last time I buy a random book from a library without thoroughly researching it first because this was one of the dumbest books I have read in my life. Not just because it is a poorly written metaphor for loser junkies (I have zero empathy for this species of loser, shown as a sad victim, their weakness motivated and exulted), but because it is just...stupid.

The worst protagonist outside of the general YA cancer? Yes. Erin is weak, shallow, pathetic, stupid and no one in their right mind could possibly root for a walking zombie. Die in pain, Erin.

Silas is a name I never want to hear or read again in anything, ever. A disgusting character, given way too much importance with no reason. An ugly, soulless invention. An excuse to use the shittiest name a million fucking times in a 300 page book.

Tobias is another name I never want to interact with again. Another retarded and useless character. See where this is going? There is NOTHING in this book and NO ONE worth reading about.

This book is, for me, kindling. It is beneath bench abandon. It proves that once you start publishing, you can get away with any piece of trash and other authors, most likely equally trash, will support and help prostitute your book to the masses, until a stupid, hopeful reader will buy the hardcover in an expensive Danish bookstore. There needs to be some kind of return and reimbursement policy created for books in a world where 10% of new releases are praise worthy and the rest mediocre, sub-mediocre and homunculus-level. This novel was definitely homunculus-level.

Don't do drugs, kids. It will not make you cool or worthy.

The premise of the book really got my attention. I love ghost stories and this was definitely the ultimate ghost story. Just over half way through I found myself thinking that is was less intense than I had anticipated… and then that ending sure delivered. I’m glad I didn’t read the ending before bed because that packed a horrific punch.

Graphic and gorey, I think that will be one that stays with me.

I literally can’t believe I finished this.

I want to leave a dozen scathing comments but I guess I’ll keep it brief and at least not be mean: if you decide to pick this up, and you have any misgivings at all in the first 15%, save yourself the trouble and DNF.

Okay and I guess one more thing, which is this was absolutely written by a member of the DARE generation *derisive*.

It was weird, but it was ok. To be fair, I don't typically read this genre.

If I'd not been reading this while doing other stuff, I definitely would have DNF'd it, it just dragged on and on and on, like a bad trip.

This was definitely disturbing. There were parts that had a really impressive horror element to it and then other parts I felt were just kind of gross? (Do NOT read if you have emetophobia). I kinda liked the overarching theme of being a sort of supernatural take on addiction. Imagine a drug that allowed you to communicate with the dead - suddenly you can speak to all of your loved ones you’ve ever lost again - but only if you keep taking it.

Unfortunately I thought the execution of this plot was lacking for me. As one fellow reader said - death is one of the only things in life that we ALL have in common - so why didn’t I feel absolutely any sort of camaraderie with the main characters? Ah well - had to read a spooky book during October didn’t I!
