Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman

This book may not be for everyone but it was for me! Talk about such a dark poetic story. This book may be one of my horror Roman Empire books. I can't stop thinking about it! It truly dives into the grief process when you lose someone who you loved but may have been toxic for you. The way the author presents death, addiction, grief and surrounding yourself with what haunts you...is just breathtaking.
If you're a horror fan, or a reader who loves twisted stories.. give it a shot!

That was…super weird. I really enjoyed it but damnit, everyone really pissed me off. Except Amara, she got really screwed over here.

I did NOT understand the obsession with Silas. He was such a shithead

This is a very heavy story, but well worth the read. A ghost story about grief and the haunting effects it leaves on us.

This story gives a whole new meaning to staying away from drugs... whether it's a substance or a person. OR both.

Decided to finish it, hoping it would get better. I just can't not finish a book, I guess.

Echoing some of the other reviews, this book is so scattered. It has some really cool themes that I would have loved to see explored better, but they sort of just burn out instead. About halfway through, I genuinely felt like there wasn't a story anymore. You find it again in the second half, but I don't think it should have taken that long.

Pop a pill, see the dead. Side effects may occur.

I started out liking this so much. The characters were good, there was a lot of history, and it started out like a slow burn/dread story. However, as it went it got a lot more disjointed and there were a ton of questions and plot holes that went unanswered. There were several scenes that were horrible (in a good way) on their own, but they felt repetitive. For example, Erin seeing ghosts at work and then experiencing the exact same thing at her parents' dinner party the same evening felt like a lot, and looking back I think that's where the writing and plot started to devolve. I liked the writing style but wish this had maybe gone through a few more rounds of edits, especially on the second half.

Confusing writing style. Frustrating and kinda boring. Concept had so much potential but just became a story about overcoming drug addiction.

This had been on my “want to read” list for a while.

I really enjoyed where the line of reality and fiction began to blur. I agree with some of the other reviewers that all the characters seem to be really detestable.

Some of the bodily descriptions were a bit too much for me.
