It's a small book that packs a big punch.
I imagine that everyone has something they can take away from this book. The basics of vital subjects are explored concisely. A great starting point for anyone wanting to learn more about topics like race, class, gender and disability.
I found the history of racism horrifically interesting. I knew some facts already but I was surprised to learn how relatively recent the classification of race is. I also didn't know that the Catholic church was once again responsible for creating suffering and discourse that would traumatize generations. How very on brand.
Imani did her research and it shows.

I normally struggle with nonfiction but I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt that the writing was very accessible. I liked that the writer discussed language usage- including historical context and best practices. I appreciated the discussion of historical timelines in conjunction with concepts to help contextualize things for the reader. This book broke things down into manageable pieces. I definitely would recommend this book!

THE BOOK IN THREE SENTENCES
  1. This book is informative for those just starting their journey into antiracism, LGBT+, etc.
  2. This book is the very basic information needed to be a decent human being nowadays.
  3. This book is something that should be required in schools.

THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS
I think this book is a great jumping off point for a lot of social justice issues today. I was a little upset about the authors clear lack of knowledge around asexuality, but that was a small drop in the bucket of a much larger, very necessary book. It was short and digestible, which is very good for books like these that are meant for people just starting on the journey of learning about these topics.
