wow to this book in a lot of ways. It was so many things I didn’t expect it to be, partly in that it’s balanced in a way a lot of YA is not. Lulu is a character who is going to stick with me for a really long time. Her sharp observance, her growth into knowing who she wants to be (or wants not to be), and some pretty fantastic female friendship made this book really special.

Lulu Shapiro accidentally posts a video of her making out with another girl to her 5,000 Flash followers (Flash is like an Instagram/Snapchat hybrid) which leads to a break up with Lulu's boyfriend and tension in her group of friends.
From there the story is about Lulu figuring out who she is, what she wants and finding her place in the world. It's about self-acceptance, sexuality, feminism, body issues, the impact of social media and ultimately character growth.
Although I personally can't identify with the main problem itself (I've never been big on posting pictures and videos of myself on social media or craving attention, followers and likes) I still enjoyed this book a lot.
What I liked most is that the characters and the created conflicts between some of those characters felt entirely realistic. I was never annoyed by the teenage drama because it was all reasonable and especially Lulu thought a lot about her mistakes, worked on her behaviour and tried to change things.
The queer representation was handled so well, I wish I had this book when I was younger, but I'm definitely glad to have read it now.

DNF @ 21%: I wanted so badly to love this one bc I loved the last Zan Romanoff book I read, but this was just very much not working for me. Womp.

This book started out a little slow but once I got into it I really loved it. This was a great queer, coming of age and finding your fierce feminist side story and I am here for it!
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings:
Diversity: queer and jewish main character, lesbian character, filipina character, black character.
I'm... a little on the fence about that one. On the one hand, I really liked the messages of the book, the thoughts about social media and reclaiming your identity, your body, yourself, the main character's growth and journey to find and define herself.
On the other hand, it took me a little bit to really get into the story and I don't know, I was just missing this real feeling and connection while reading that would make me rate this higher. ANYWAY. Still liked it! Still recommending this!

Lulu grapples with a lot in this book -- how sexism works to diminish the perceived value of her art; how feminism alone without intersectionality does not adequately address the needs of all women; a growing understanding and ownership of her sexuality; and how social media can be both a weapon and a tool.
But it's not heavy-handed; all that is woven into a very readable story.

Look is about a girl named Lulu who has a lot of followers on an app called Flash. When she accidentally posts a video of her kissing another girl, her boyfriend breaks up with her. Then she meets a girl named Cass who takes her to The Hotel- a place that a rich kid is restoring that uses for parties. But Lulu's spotlight won't leave her.
This book wasn't for me and I knew that going into it but I still listened to it because I'm a clown- I hate stories that are all about social media / social media fame. This book was slightly more than that but really, it was mostly about teens going to parties and being awful to each other. I did how weirdly feminist it turned out to be though.
Lulu wasn't much of a main character. For most of the book it just felt like things were happening to her with little inference from her. The romance was also... a thing. Everything else was just trying so hard to be quirky and edgy.
I never get when authors make characters have a lot of followers they go for such a small number. Lulu has literally 5k and everyone was losing their mind and I just ??? People have millions of followers for nothing and the best you can do is 5k on this instagram ripoff app you just made up? I'm cackling.
I'm uncomfortable with the fact that barely anyone has reviewed this book so imma head out now but this book wasn't for me, but at least it was entertaining enough. (Also the cover for this is far too ominous for this story.)
