What a fabulous, sexy and fun read! I'm so glad I treated myself to Jen's books and can't wait to read book 2!

Absolutely devouring

4.5*!!

This book is an absolute gem! From the moment I cracked it open at 7pm until the wee hours of 2am, I was hooked and loving every minute. The premise of a gutsy New Zealander ditching her life for the bustling streets of New York struck a chord with me, resonating with that universal desire to say "screw it" and chase our dreams.

What sets this book apart is its refreshing take on romance. Gone are the tired tropes of toxic relationships and dependent heroines. Instead, we're treated to the delightful journey of Alex, an independent and strong-willed woman, and Michael, a swoon-worthy yet flawed hero who's as sweet as a cinnamon roll. Their love story unfolds amidst a backdrop of vibrant characters and witty banter, making it impossible to put down.

Jen Morris has crafted a perfect romantic comedy that hits all the right notes. The chemistry between the characters sizzles, the pacing is spot-on, and the humor is infectious. Even the supporting cast shines with depth and charm, leaving you wishing they were your real-life friends.

In a genre often plagued by clichés, Love in the City stands out as a beacon of healthy romance and genuine storytelling. It's like being wrapped in a warm blanket of snuggles, comfort, and love—a feeling that definitely warrants a well-deserved 5-star rating. If you're craving a dose of joy, laughter, and a touch of inspiration, look no further than this delightful masterpiece.

“I stare at him, feeling my chest tighten at his words, barely able to breathe. Then he reaches his arms around my shoulders and pulls me into a hug. My hands are still in the sink, but I twist towards him and rest my head against his chest, closing my eyes, wondering what that warm feeling is rushing through me, filling me up, making me want to sob.
And then I realise what it is. It’s the feeling of being seen, for who I am, and being accepted anyway. It’s the feeling of being understood.”

Love in the City is the debut novel by author Jen Morris. A rom-com, we meet Alex as she suffers from a hangover after being dumped by her boyfriend and during her alcoholic rant and wallow, books a one-way trip to follow her dream of becoming a writer, living in New York City. Despite her parents outrage and Alex’s own doubts and insecurities, she goes through with it and finds herself in the city of dreams a mere two, crazy-filled weeks later.

What follows is a story of an ordinary girl from New Zealand who takes a chance on a new life and all it has to offer. New friends, opportunities and experiences Alex has only dreamed about, are now hers to explore and enjoy, away from the negativity of her parents and the small-town life she felt dragged down by. Alex is relatable to the everyday reader, she second-guesses herself, she worries, and at times dithers over making the right choices, but this balances out with her enthusiasm, her love for life and her funny little quirks.

And then there’s Michael! Grumpy, bearded Michael, a single-dad who has been burned by love, he meets Alex and let’s say it’s definitely not love at first sight! Through a few more chance encounters we discover a more softer side to his persona and a slow-burn romance ensues filled with the most amazing chemistry that then turns hot!

Jen Morris has won my heart with her writing. Smooth, flowing and interesting, I was taken with this book from the first chapter. Written solely from Alex’s point of view, we get glimpses inside her head, and quite a few times I laughed out loud at her thoughts, as well as feeling her sorrow. I smiled throughout so many chapters, and with the introduction of secondary characters such as Cat, Geoff, Agnes and little Henry, it all evolves into a dynamic rom-com that makes the reader feel all the emotions only the way a good book can. Jen Morris’ love for New York City shines through with every word and seeing the city through Alex’s eyes just makes the reader want to travel and experience the magic for themselves.

Love in the City is a 5 star read, a must for readers who enjoy romantic comedies, a book for readers wishing to escape to the city and find love within the pages. I received an early copy of this book, with all opinions my own.

First romcom I've enjoyed in a while. I saw the author's Instagram post about this book and was so intrigued I had to read it right away. I read it in one afternoon... that shows how good this book is.

This is a super cute read of a Kiwi girl coming to NYC to see if she can be a writer and prove to her self. This book has so many writing, bookshop, books, romance book love little bits it makes it so fun! She runs into the grumpy soon to find out next door neighbor and after a couple run-ins, they finally get some action in a bookstore. Love the missteps, banter, witty side of the characters, and loved some of the side characters- cute kid and funny older lady! Will she be able to write and get her dream job? Also, is HEA possible in real life?

Wonderful start to I hope a new series - Cat needs the next one! Some great lol moments and some great steamy scenes. Loved all the self-discovery and finding herself!

Overall, 4 stars and 3.5 steam

Alex decided, of more likely impulsively while drunk decided to move to New York. This has always been her dream but now she has to follow it. Draining her savings doesn't leave her with many options anyway.

Michael is a single dad struggling to manage all of his responsibilities. Alex brings a new point of view in his life.

Alex is s very relatable and loveble heroine, she seems like a true person, her way of thinking and acting was pretty realistic.

I enjoy the romance, which I can only describe as a slow burn. In general I liked this story I just didn't love it.

It was a fun book with a lot of great New York snippets.

My mind is blown. I was up until 1:30am reading this book. I feel like I love each book more then the last. If you’re into guys that are broody until you get to know them, small town girls turned big city, and

This book is a great example of how empowering romance novels can be. I loved that the author gave Alex a happy ending on her own terms. Alex didn’t settle for the expectations her family had set for her. She created her own life and her own happiness - not just in love but in her career as well. It was a really refreshing reminder that you have to maintain healthy boundaries, but not let those boundaries prevent you from being open to love and happiness. I truly enjoyed every minute of this book and applaud the author on weaving together so many important and relatable topics for women in their 20s and 30s.

Was honestly not sure what to expect going into this book, but I had high hopes. It sounded like it’d be right up my alley. I’m happy to report that it was! I loved the setting and the well developed characters and how their relationship built up as the story went on.

In some ways the story feels a bit cheesy, and definitely has serious SATC vibes.... which I mostly view as good things. The book isn’t all cute though. There are plenty of steamier bits and while there’s a bit of a slow burn to get there...trust me, it’s well worth the wait!!

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next installment. I’m so ready to see what happens with Alex and Michael and adorable Henry!
