Mandy Gray and her three children had been living with her no-good husband for years before he went off and got himself killed. Instead of this being good news, though, it leaves Mandy the prime subject of a family feud between her husband and the vicious Cooter clan. When long-time friend Tom Linscott comes to rescue her and the kids out from under the fear of being killed, Mandy is convinced it means death for him as well. Fortunately (and unfortunately) for Tom and Mandy, both of them are strongly stubborn. And they both know they will have to work together if they want to survive.

*sigh* A Mary Connealy book. Always such good reading. It feels as though I've known these characters for years now, like my own friends of the family. I've watched them grow up and marry off and start families of their own. Been on adventure after adventure with them. It is one of the reasons I enjoy Mary Connealy's books. This latest book (and the last in the Sophie's Daughter's Trilogy), was not my favorite though. For some reason I just wasn't into the story as I was with Beth and Sally. Perhaps because in the previous books, Mandy's story was always on the sidelines, little teases here and there about her terrible situation and the strong woman she was having to be in order to survive. So when we finally push everyone else to the side and get to see Mandy's story full-time, I was expecting more of the same feelings from before. They just weren't there. Not that Mandy is not an incredibly tough, independent woman. But the way she interacted with Tom was simply not interesting enough for me. The best scene in the whole book was when the reader finally gets to see just how sharp a shooter Mandy really is. I would have liked to see more of those shots! Still, Mary Connealy is no stranger to finishing a trilogy, and expertly wraps this one up with happy endings all around.

Love, love, love, love! Witty, humorous, exciting, everything that a story should be, it is. Best book of the trilogy!

Finally I got to Mandy's story!
The changes in Mandy & her circumstances between book 2 & this book made me feel like I'd missed an entire book. That said, I really like the hero Tom. I could see that he complimented Mandy and was a big enough character to be her equal. I loved how the McClellen family got together at the end of the book; that was a neat way to end the series.
On to the Cooters. They were like roaches; you couldn't shake them and they were everywhere. That seemed rather unlikely to me. Surely you can hide from people in a wilderness!!! But I liked that Grandpappy was part in dismantling the feud and explaining family honour. Not sure how effective it will be on a bunch of criminals....
I encourage you to read this book and enjoy :)

So I am all for the publisher putting a number on these books so I can read them in order for once. Thinking this was the first book because it was about the oldest daughter, I read it first. Now it probably didn't make too much of a difference, but it still annoyed me. And then I actually read the book and was annoyed further.

Mandy is a great shot, in fact, probably the finest sharpshooter around. But that doesn't keep her from hiding out in her mountain fortress until handsome Tom Linscott comes to her rescue. Mandy has been hiding out with her three small children ever since the Cooter clan declared a feud on her. With her previous husband dead from the feud, Mandy fears that its only a matter of time for Tom since he insists on marrying her. They have to find a way to keep their family safe or die trying. But there's a lot more of the Cooters than there are of them.

This book brings together all the characters of Connealy's Texas series and of her Montana series and kind of focuses on the next generation. If you haven't read these other series, things could probably get confusing pretty quick. I highly recommend not starting on this series first because of it. Having only seen Mandy as a somewhat confusing child in the Texas series, I was surprised at the woman she became. She just seemed a little harsh. Tom too wasn't that appealing (and I hadn't found him appealing in the other books either) so I guess in a way they fit together. The way Connealy brought in all the other characters was a bit too contrived as well.

I didn't like the plot much at all. While a blood feud may seem exciting there were just too many implausible aspects in this one. Not to mention the nice rumors that were generated about Mandy after so short a time. And I couldn't understand how Connealy could have such bloodthirsty scenes and then make the ending the way she did. I was just left scratching my head. Without giving too much away, it was very anticlimactic. The storyline also tends to bounce around from here to there while having way too much going on to make any one certain story important. Since Connealy is a Christian fiction writer I should touch on that; there actually wasn't a whole lot of religion mentioned in this book. Which is very different compared to her others.

Obviously I wasn't a big fan and while its not the worst of hers that I've read, it ranks pretty close to the worst. I can only hope the previous two books are better.

If you like Sophie's Daughters or any of Mary's other historical romance series' you will really enjoy this book especially since (I think) it features every character from Montana Marriages and Lassoed in Texas. Sharpshooter in Petticoats not only gives Mandy the ending she deserves but reunites all the characters we know and love in a fashion that only Mary Connealy can pull off.

As a follower of the series I was excited to read Mandy's story. Since having read the fiasco with Sidney in Doctor in Petticoats and pretty much loathing him from the get go I had the feeling he wouldn't be around for the long haul...thank goodness he wasn't! I'm usually pretty quick at figuring things out and becoming attached to certain characters. Sid wasn't one of them. I was hoping that I would be seeing a little more of Tom Linscott and I wasn't dissappointed. When you put two stubborn folks like Mandy and Tom together there's bound to be some friction and boy do the sparks fly. Chaotic, crazy, action-packed, and of course, hilarious this is one book not to be missed. This was the first book I read on my Nook but I enjoyed it so much I plan on getting a "real" copy to put on my bookshelf!

*I received my complimentary galley copy through the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for posting my review of the book.*

Sadly this is the last book in the series. I enjoy reading Mary Connealy's books because she has really strong female characters. I was pleased to see the resolution of Mandy's story which was started in the first book in this second series. And with the return of Tom there was a better husband in the mix than Sidney. On the whole this might be my favorite book in the series mostly because I wanted to see how Mandy made out.
