This book took a little bit to get into it. I was initially a little confused at the switch of point of views with no designation but it sorted itself out as the book went on. I was drawn into the story but then the end threw me for a loop. I'm just not really sure what happen or why...

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
Just swerve this one.
You can thank me later.

This book was kind of a slog, and it seemed like it took a long time to finish (even though it actually took only 6 days)- but that's definitely a knock against it. I'm a huge fan of books with unlikeable/flawed protagonists, but in this instance, they just felt kinda boring. Also the second book I have read by this author that has a cat murder which seems pretty suspect- mentioned quickly and having occurred "off-screen" so to speak, but still. 2/5 cats do not approve.

I think that Sarah Pinborough may not be the author for me. All of her books that I have read, including Dead to Her, have been just okay and I'm always left wanting more.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

This one was a social class drama, with murder and other crimes mixed in. It kept me guessing the whole time! Plus, the plot was so different than other thrillers I’ve read lately, it made it extra entertaining.

There as a group of main characters, all told from Marcie’s point of view. Marcie married Jason and into the upper-class world of Savannah, GA. In their group is William, who just married a very young new bride from England after his wife passes. But then William is almost murdered and is in a hospital bed fighting for his life. The police have multiple suspects. Marcie has a questionable past. Keisha (the new bride) is stirring up all sorts of issues. Oh- and Jason’s ex wife Jacquie is back in town.

My head is spinning! So much going on. This one was so good!

Absolute trash. The worst sex scenes I've ever read, and ofc all the black people in the book are into voodoo.

I'm not having much luck with my thrillers this year and this one is no different.

I hated her first book, Behind Her Eyes, because I want my psychological thrillers to be realistic. That one was such a disappointment. It was like she just added that twist because she didn't know how to make it surprising and all.

Then I saw this new book from her. I thought maybe she'll try a new strategy with her book so I picked it up. Give a second chance. Oh my. Now I really would steer clear of her books.

At first I was intrigued. I like it when a story revolves around rich people and a newcomer. Lots of suspicion thrown around because almost everyone has a motive.

But I was turned off by the voodoo things and I thought, oh my here we go again with the unrealistic stuff. And then there were too much sex! It didn't add much to the story but they were detailed.

The reveals were lackluster and far-fetched and I was so frustrated because of the voodoo stuff mixed in. Felt like this was an episode of Creeped Out (watch that on Netflix. It's better than this.) and Tales of the Crypt Keeper (again this one's better).

The ending was supposed to make the readers want more but I felt the opposite. I was glad the book was over.

Do I recommend it? If you're a fan of thrillers that are realistic and without paranormal or anything same to that, I don't recommend her books. If you like that in a psychological thriller, read it.

Will I read more from her? NOOOOOOOO.

P.S. Hope you are all safe and well despite the current situation! I had a terrible reading slump. Now I am slowly getting back to reading. Hope you are all able to read even one book or a few.
