TW!!! ⚠️⚠️

There were two scenes where the husband initiates sex while his wife is sleeping. One of the times, she’s passed out and doesn’t wake up. It’s presented as romantic for him wanting her, but it’s straight up assault.

Chasing Us picks up right where Chasing Love left off so please ensure you read Chasing Love first before starting, as this is book 2 of a duet.

*Please be warned there may be book 1 spoilers in this review*

Charlie is heartbroken. She just started to trust Lex again & gave him her full heart by marrying him last minute. But Lex's past then comes & ruins it once again, sending Charlie running (again!). Lex will do anything to make it up to Charlie & prove to her that he is in for the long run, but will Charlie ever fully trust him?
As another surprise is thrown into the mix, Lex & Charlie suddenly find themselves having to forgive each other for their broken past & work together in sharing the love they have. By 60% of this book, their love story is complete & they are happy. I suggest only reading up to there because the last 30-40% was all over the place...

Unfortunately a terrible incident occurs, resulting in Lex having to leave his beloved married family bliss & be there for his sister. Unfortunately this impacts Lex & Charlie's marriage (which doesn't make sense because Charlie should be there for Ariana too), and the drama that spirals is just unnecessary. Charlie & Lex grow so much in the first 50% of this book and the last 30% ruins all their growth. I wish they stuck together & were there for Lex's sister; Ariana together. But instead, Charlie made it about her & Lex stuffed up (again!).

I love Lex & Charlie. I was obsessed with their story. But their story could have been one book, not a duet. The last 30% of this book was drama that wasn’t needed or written well. Unfortunately with this in mind, I have to give it 3/5 stars with 3/5 steam.

I will be continuing with this series as I am excited to read about Will & Amelia!!!

Liked this book but it wasn’t as good as the first one. My main complaint is that I don’t think it needed to be so long. Certain plot lines weren’t at all necessary I felt like.

Specifically, I’m talking about the whole Elijah thing that was dropped at the last 20 percent and everything that followed. It was so unnecessarily depressing to do to Elijah and Adriana, considering for the majority of these two books they were happy and it really served no purpose to the story hitting them with a surprise tragedy at the last quarter of the book.

As far as the next two books that I’m pretty sure are centered around Julian and Adriana, I don’t think Elijah being killed off after all that was worth it just for Julian and Adriana to get books because Julian could have gotten books with anyone else, and Adriana could have gotten books about her relationship with Elijah. And if the author wanted Adriana and Julian together, I don’t think having Adriana and Elijah being secure and happy and referring to each other as “soul mates” for two books straight was needed if he was going to be killed off to make that happen. Either Elijah shouldn’t have died at all, or their happiness and love shouldn’t have been so emphasized for two books straight.

That being said, I could have gotten over it if it was at least useful in some way to Charlotte and Lex’s story, since they are the main characters, but it wasn’t at all. The conflict between Charlotte and Lex that followed was unnecessary, messy, and so rushed. And that’s coming from someone who usually actually likes last minute relationship conflict. It honestly just had me pissed of at both of them. I just think it came out of nowhere, and with the book nearing the end, there wasn’t enough time for it to be handled well. Honestly, it’s what ended up knocking the rating down from 4 to 3 stars.

Basically, the book should have just been shortened. Not only did the drama at the end not need to happen, but the fluff after they got publicly married could have been shorter.

Regardless of these things that I think should have been done differently though, all in all I did still like the book. I still love Charlie and Lex, even though the end had me upset with them and doubting their love for one another a little. Luckily, their relationship and feelings for each other had been built up and written well enough prior to these events that, in the end, I did think they loved each other a lot and were soulmates despite the messy and terribly handled conflict. So, because of that, I think the books were overall worth it. I’ve been in a little bit of a slump, and this is probably the most I’ve enjoyed a book/series in weeks. 4 stars for the duology as a whole.

aatiefah's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 46%

Takes long to get to the point

They've both been selfish pricks since the beginning. They both cheated on their partners but they still couldn't fix their problems but i am not complaining here. I ate this shit up. I'm always living for drama and this one has it all. Fate rlly do be fucking them in the ass. like literally. It was always the right person at the wrong time. My heart goes out to Julian. I have loved him since the beginning, but I knew Lex and Charlie would be the endgame, so i didn't get my hopes up. I'm just glad the next book is abt him and that he will finally get his happy ending. I read the synopsis of the next book and boyy…. I legit did not see that coming. Adriana(Lex's sister) and julian OMFG.IM ALL IN.

Lex and Charlie - book 2, second chance, cheating,

There were a lot of ups and downs in this book. Even though I knew how it ends (I read will and Amelia before without knowing of this book), my emotions were every where

I absolutely loved this duet. The characters were so real and deep and the story was so effortless to connect with. Charlie and Lex’s story rugs at your heartstrings, your humour, as well as your faith in love conquering all. A great story displaying the reality of life and how one’s stubbornness.

This was miles ahead of the first book. Wow. Sobbing.

I had such a hard time reading this, and not because it was emotionally hard to read, as I've read in other reviews. This book was SO dragged out. The issue from last book was wrapped up rather quickly, and we get a new problem maybe around 75% of the book. The ending to this was SO rushed. I feel like the book could've ended at like 55% of the book and we would've all been happy on where the story would've ended. Obviously the book leaves us with an open door for next book. I just find the whole climax of this book absolutely unnecessary. If you've read the synopsis to all the books before actually reading them, you know the next book is about Julian & his love interest. We do deal with grief in this book. So although some things in this book were necessary for SOME characters, I couldn't stand the way Lex dealt with grief. The way he dealt wit it was complete shit. Charlie at some point annoyed me and gave me victim vibes and soon after her theatrics, there'd be some line about how she'd always been strong but couldn't deal anymore. I feel like both characters have recurring toxic behavior and that just got old really quick.

Anyway, here are some quotes that made me laugh or cringe throughout the book. Read at your own expense.
Catching the breath I have been holding in, this is no doubt the best thing ever to happen to me. - Chapter 21
I'm sorry but I couldn't stop laughing at this.

“Rocky, not all Texans are cowboys…”- chapter 24

C’mon, Charlie, wittiness and comebacks are your specialty. Yeah, maybe not when a woman is practically naked and handcuffed to your husband’s, no, our bed! -chapter 27
I swear sometimes this woman's inner dialogue is ridiculous.

I try to keep my mind busy, but without him, I’m slowly dying inside. -chapter 32

I ended up DNFing this one at 52% because there was nearly 200 pages left and I felt Lex and Charlotte's story was done (it obviously wasn't, but I was happy with where things were.)

Still giving this 4 stars because I did love all 52% of it.
