I don’t like when a heroine
gives up her dreams for a hero

Coming back to the Wynchesters series is always like a warm hug. The found family component of these books always warms my heart--the Wynchester family is so welcoming and supportive and that feels like it extends to you the reader as well.

Kuni hails from Balcovia, where the Wynchesters' adoptive father was born, and finds herself in England gathering reconnaissance for a future royal visit. Kuni wants to prove that she has the skills to become the first Royal Guardswoman, which means she has no time for distractions like handsome acrobat-turned-noble Graham Wynchester.

As the family spymaster, Graham prides himself on knowing the goings-on of London but also harbors the whimsical dream of saving a Princess. Graham is instantly smitten with Kuni and her competency, but is his interest more about Kuni's royal connection?

Kuni and Graham's story is sweet and earnest, and was such easy to read. It's also a story with obvious stakes and a whole heck of a lot of pining (but in a fun way). While there is some heat at the very end, I wouldn't classify this book as an overly spicy read. If you're looking for something to tide you over in the wake of Bridgerton, please give Erica Ridley and the Wynchesters a try!

It was a fun historical romance. I love the family and the stories Erica tells.

I really enjoyed the characters and their antics, but the story didn’t really hold my attention, and Kuni’s internal conflict felt repetitive in how it was mentioned.

I love a slow burn historical romance. Even though I started this series out of order, the author did a really good job of describing the secondary characters to give a sense of who they were. The main plot of this book follows a woman who has a lifelong goal to break glass ceilings to become the first female royal guard. But after she meets the MMC, she has to decide whether to pursue her lifelong goal or if that goal is worth it if she doesn’t have love in her life.

Quick Summary: Strong female characters who defied the norm was the order of the day.

My Review: Nobody's Princess by Erica Ridley was a different type of period romance. I cannot recall ever reading a story where there were multiple female characters who defied the norm. I liked that! It was refreshing to see. In terms of K and G, their story came across as one of a reverse fairy tale mixed with action and adventure. Their parting and their reunion were memorable moments. It was good to see a HEA.

This was my first Erica Ridley novel. I am open to seeing what else she has written.
