I really enjoyed this book and reading about Millie and Callie. It was fun reading about a character that wasn’t necessarily “nice” or a good person and to see her character growth. The only thing that bothered me a bit it that the friendship between the two girls went from “never really talked” to “almost best friends” a little bit fast. I would have liked to see the in between be developed a bit more.

I decided to read this after the Netflix adaptation of Dumplin’ was released and I loved this book. It was so cute and fun and I genuinely love all of the characters. Millie is adorable as always and I actually like Callie? What?? Julie Murphy did that. She made that happen.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with this book. It’s so pure.

I liked getting to delve into the world of two tertiary characters from Dumplin'. I think I liked this one better than the first, which is hard for a second book in a series or companion book to accomplish.

Definitely better than the first. There's something I just can't stand about Willow Dean and I'm glad she was barely in this book.

I really am picking up what Julie Murphy is putting down. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't feel as strongly about this companion, but I loved it just as much. This story was just as bold and brilliant feeling as Dumplin'. I will say a few moments are a little preachy, but the message is so needed that I didn't mind at all.
The audiobook is well read, the characters are very clear, and overall another great read full of a new take on familiar characters. I enjoyed switching narrators throughout, and found the plot very relatable.

Millie Michalchuk is a phenomenal character that only Julie Murphy could have created. I think this book was better than Dumplin' because it was a bit more realistic, at least to me. I love that Millie wants to be a broadcast journalist despite her larger size. I love that a friendship between two girls that breaks social barriers is at the center of this novel. I love that there are conversations in this novel about sexuality and racism. I love that there are conversations about diet culture and self-love. It's a wonderful novel that would be extremely powerful for any young woman to read -- one of the best YA novels I've read in a long time.

I think I loved this book even more than the first one in the series! Intensely readable, totally satisfying, and characters you care about. Arguably the pieces fit together a little too neatly, but that's also what adds to the satisfying factor. You'll close this book with a sigh of enjoyment and a big grin on your face. Sign me up for anything by Julie Murphy!
