Very thin plot line, was mostly spice without much substance. I didn't find myself rooting for this couple. Not even a slightly healthy relationship. Would not recommend.
While I have enjoyed several other books by Christina Lauren, I did not enjoy this one as much. The story was well-written, but my problem was actually the relationship between the two main characters. It seemed to center around hate sex and did not have a good development to the first sexual encounter. I also did not like that most of their sexual encounters seem to occur in the office where they could easily get caught. Overall, if you like a smutty office romance than this is the book for you, but if you want better character development you should look elsewhere.
3,5-4*
It’s impressive how Christina Lauren went from writing this type of straight up smut erotic romance to writing god tier contemporary romance. Beautiful Bastard is enjoyable for what it is, it’s juicy, fun and sexy. It has the wit we find in their more recent books but with an overload of sex scenes. I am still glad they breached out of that genre and it’s interesting to see how their writing improved from then on.
As for the story, though some of Bennett’s alpha-male actions were questionable, it was great to see Chloe calling him out about them. I liked them as characters and I liked to see how their relationship progressed (besides of the sex) and I’m definitely excited to see more of them as I continue on with the series.

This book is all kinds of problematic. ALL KINDS. But here I am, and I read it, and yes (in a whisper) I enjoyed it, but this is NOT what I was expecting. I can’t bring myself to actually give this a rating (sorry), just know that I was entertained even when I was APPALLED at the #metoo implications here, and honestly the things that I’ve enjoyed about recent Christina Lauren books just didn’t seem to be in place - the playfulness, the humor, the snark. There is so much wrong here and yet I refuse to call a book a guilty pleasure so I’m posting that I read it all the same. (Full disclosure: I could see myself continuing this series. Just so long as it’s not a whole bunch of HATE SEX BETWEEN A BOSS AND INTERN THAT BLOSSOMS INTO LURVE.)
2.5 rounded up. Saving grace: it was a short listen. The storyline felt like it was just thrown in to break up the BOLD sex scenes. Well not THAT bold, but a couple made ya girl blush-that ain’t easy.
Real score 3.99. Reading a lot of romance this year for a challenge I’m doing. Writing it for NaNoWriMo. I think I like the funnier stuff the most. But this wasn’t bad. It’s all great research for finding non-cheesy way of describing naughty bits. ‘Naughty bits’ isn’t one of them!
oh my.. this was such a great book! I really enjoyed it ;)
