!!! i absolutely could not wait for this book after reading book one.
i loved the diversity in the characters, and the midwife MC, and so much more. there were moments that made me laugh, made me cry, made me shocked beyond disbelief.
the main thing i disliked about it was the chemistry between saraya and drake felt rushed? i kinda wish there was a more gradual change from enemies to friends to lovers. they really do make a cute power couple <3.
my memory isn’t the best but i don’t really remember anything about the Green Reaper in the first story? i wish he seemed more threatening and scary. it kinda seems he’s all bark, weak bite.
the kindle version had some weird formatting errors, but i bet they’ll be revised soon.
the first book was a hard act to follow and i really look forward to reading the last installment! the ending of this book was partially predictable based on the contents, but it hurt me all the same.

The plot veers off from the first book here and I gotta say I like the first one better :/ This book gives off like Court of Nightmares vibes from the ACOTAR series which is definitely interesting and I do like that it keeps things interesting with a different setting with a bunch of new characters -- I think I just couldn't keep track of everything because I wasn't super consistent with my reading.

This book made me so frustrated. Saraya is utterly useless, despite having the strongest magic evarrr and being an amaaazing physical fighter. /sarcasm
I realized that I didn't notice in the first book (because the action at the end was fun), but Saraya spends a ridiculous amount of time in both books being captured and powerless. In the first book, she had many short periods of captivity, in between showing off her magic and fighting prowess.
In this book, Saraya and Drake are helpless prisoners going along with whatever Havrok wants for 63% of the story.
Saraya never tries to plot an escape; she just figures Drake will come up with something. When they're finally freed, it's only because THEIR CAPTORS CHOOSE TO REMOVE SARAYA'S AND DRAKE'S RESTRAINTS. What?!!!
I DNFed at 66%; I only stuck around this far because I was morbidly curious about how long the author expected me to want to read about Saraya doing nothing to free herself. This is such a waste of what could have been a cool world and main character.
