Aveline is back and this time there are witches and a holiday she will never forget!

I am so hyped that this series keeps on going, because I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series. The covers are so pretty and I cannot wait to see what the next book’s cover will be.

I am tired/not feeling too well, so I will do my best to write a review, but sorry in advance if it is a bit chaotic.

In this book Aveline and her mom are on a holiday, just a lovely sweet holiday to rest and do some fun things. But when Aveline discovers a very awesome stone circle in the nearby field, a strange bottle, and then there is the arrival of an even stranger girl. I knew we were in for a fantastic magical story and I just sat back and watched it all unfold. I loved reading about witches, druids, and stone circles. I do have to say that this one wasn’t as scary as the previous one which made sure I didn’t sleep much. XD

I am not a fan of Hazel. While at times I could see another person underneath the one she shows to the world… I still disliked her and how manipulative she was. I can imagine you may not want to live alone for another x years, but seriously girl, you need to find someone who agrees fully. Not just manipulate your way in, enchanting friends and family, and other things. She makes for a good villain. Yes, I would definitely call her that given her actions. Definitely also adding in the ending and how she behaved there. Holy crap, I feel sorry for her sister. Also cursed for eternity, but making something of her life and trying to do what she can to find a way out.
I am happy that Harold was also part of the gang again and brought with him tons of books and information on everything.

There were a few moments that had me shaking my head. With that bottle. But also later on with the house. Yes, I am keeping it very vague, I just don’t want to spoil anything.

I just flew through this book. Before I knew it I had reached the ending and then I flipped the last page. The author has a really great writing style that keeps you into the story.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book to all! Go read it!

🔮It was one more incredible ghost story by Phil Hickes! It was creepy, tense, thrilling, and spooky. It definitely made my goosebumps running back and forth, and it made me keep the torches on!

🗿The Plot:  We keep following a girl named Aveline. She is twelve years old. She is curious and obsessed with ghosts, witches, and all the paranormal stuff. Her mother rents a cottage for the summer holidays. The house is situated beside the stone circle that is also called the Witch Stones. Here, Aveline meets Hazel, a girl of her age who is friendly and intelligent but incredibly mysterious and full of secrets. And here, all the dangerous adventures start.

🔮The Writing Style: This is the second book in the series about Aveline Jones. It was as great as the previous one! It was enjoyable to read, full of suspense and perilous twists and turns. It was written at a fire pace, with every chapter being short, intriguing, and mind-blowing. The story is cleverly written, containing a lot of illuminative facts and notes! It was an absolutely glorious, bookish adventure full of ghosts, secrets, riddles, and touching and heartbreaking moments.

🔮The Characters: The number of characters is not large. I was happy to see Aveline, her mother, Harold, and others again, and I was curious to meet the new ones. All of the characters – the old and new ones – were masterfully portrayed in all aspects. The emotional bridge with the old characters became even more solid, and the emotional connection with the new ones was established from the first lines!

🥰The Fave Quote: "Not all witches have green skin and fly around on broomsticks."

😊Would I read other books by this author: Can't wait!

☘️My humble rating is: 5/5

🔮P.S. "The Bewitching of Aveline Jones" by Phil Hickes impressed me deeply and dropped a huge anchor into my bookish heart as well as the previous one! I still gave the book my high, humble rating because of the way the author wrote about books, adventures, loneliness, and children—it was atmospheric, touching, and heartwarming at the same time.

🥰I sincerely hope you'll enjoy reading "The Bewitching of Aveline Jones" by Phil Hickes as much as I did.

🙏🏼Anyway, thank you so much for dropping by and reading this review.

📖Stay safe, take care, and happy reading.

This continues to be a super cute and surprisingly spooky middle grade series.

Aveline is such a well written character who provides the perfect amount of precociousness without coming across as inauthentic.

For a middle grade, the stakes and danger here are quite a bit higher than you'd normally expect out of a story like this. While you know in the end everything will be okay, Hickes really keeps you on edge guessing how Aveline is going to get out of these borderline-harrowing situations.

Aveline's relationship with Harold continues to be my favorite aspect of these books. They bicker and poke but truly respect and care for each other. It's a fun dynamic to follow.

Hazel, our big bad here, is quite formidable with an alarming powerset that gives our protagonists a run for their money. While stories like this always close out a little too quickly and easily, Hazel still put up a good fight and provided eerie and tense moments.

I'm super sad there's only one more book in this series (as of now) but excited to see how things close out for our dear Aveline Jones.

Entertaining. Good fun. Spooky vibes. Unconventional ending, I guess.

"The Haunting of Aveline Jones" was one of my absolute favourite Autumn reads last year, and I could not WAIT for the sequel to come out. While HAUNTING was all about ghosts, BEWITCHING follows Aveline on her family holiday, to a cottage right next to a mysterious stone circle. But not everyone in the village is who they seem to be, and when Aveline is drawn closer to the mystery she, herself, soon finds herself in danger...
Another fantastic spooky read for October! Written in the same charming style as the first book in the series, this is the perfect read for any lover of mysteries and the supernatural!
