Finished this in a few hours and it did not disappoint. This exceeded me expectations and may just be one of my new favorite contemporary reads.

This book was excellent. It was a wonderful example of how it feels to recover from a relationship with a narcissist or abuser. I also deeply appreciated how close it hit home for the author. Certainly a worthwhile read.

I received this book through the Bookship subscription box and they did not disappoint! This book kept me wanting more! The main character, Peyton goes through many ups and downs of who to trust and who not to trust. This is a great book to start the discussion of abusive relationships and to make sure young girls get the help that they need and not be afraid to talk to someone. I will definitely be sharing this book with friends and my high school students.

A 2020-2021 Missouri Gateway Readers Award preliminary nominee (grades 9-12).

After her MMA boyfriend shatters her knee during a confrontation about his steroid use, it looks like Peyton Riss's college soccer dreams are over. Because no one believes her about what happened and he won't stop harassing her, her mom sends her to her uncles to recuperate. There she meets Owen, a cute boy who helps out at her physical therapist's office. The only problem? He is also a fighter.

This was pretty good. It was predictable, and I didn't feel like it didn't anything interesting with the material. Ugh, and I hate fighting and reading about fighting.

What a gem of a read I found in this book.

Seriously. This book, I couldn’t put it down. I refused to put it down until I had finished, even if it meant staying up half the night..

Kami Garcia is a new author to me, but after reading this, I will definitely be looking at more of her books. Especially if they are anything like this.

Peyton’s story is one of betrayal, hurt, healing and trying to move forward from a devastating ‘accident’. My heart broke for her. Her dreams on the brink of shattering before it had even began, even more so by being betrayed be people who were meant to be her friends.

Until she met Owen...

I loved Owen. I loved how he stood up for what he believed in and stood to protect Peyton. For someone at that age, he had a good head on his shoulders....

The only downside I have is, I just wish we got to have a look into his mind. I would’ve loved to have some of the book in his PoV. It didn’t take away the enjoyment I had of the book, I just think it would’ve given it that extra I was looking for.
I also thought the ending felt a bit rushed and didn’t have the closure I would’ve expected. Other than that, The plot and the characters made it an incredible read.

Broken Beautiful Hearts is a poignant, important story about something too many people are afraid to discuss -- abusive relationships.

I really sympathized with Peyton. She had never had anything like this happen to her before, and she could not believe that her loving, kind boyfriend not only pushed her down the stairs -- and severely injured her and her chances of being a soccer star -- but also lied to everyone about hurting her. This lie had a ripple effect on her entire life, which in return left her ostracized at school, and left without her best friends.

This story is extremely emotional, and deeply touching. Despite definitely being fiction and at times a little campy (and what YA book isnt?) I think it is an important read for teenagers, especially those that are dating.

Broken Beautiful Hearts

Kami Garcia has a heart wrenching awesome story with this novel. While I wasn't involved with someone who doped I did have an ex that mentally abused me & this story is a good insight into both mental & physical abuse.

Peyton has to deal with the after math of Reed's rage and it leaves her recovering from surgery & possibility of losing her dreams, as well as her friends. When she moves in with her uncle & cousins she is in for a whole new set of experiences. These will lead her to make choices that she would not have before the fall.

This was a good book, but I found myself trying to just finish it at points. I liked Peyton at times, but for some reason I just didn’t like the romance. But overall it was a good book.
