Beautiful and haunting. The desire to feel and the struggle to be human.

As infuriating and disquiet as Elyria is, so many parts of her endless stream of consciousness and uneasy dread put an interesting new light on things mundane (or perfectly and pleasantly typical) with creative and upside-down wording that makes me smile, despite the frightening relatable quality of her demise into freedom. Having just finished it is making me ramble...

Beautiful prose mixed with brilliant character work. Truly fleshed out, doesn’t overstay its welcome, and provides a lot of worthwhile commentary on dysfunctional family relationships and the possible emotional effects of suicide on others. Many reviewers have been upset that “nothing happens,” and I can’t help but think they missed the entire story.
Graphic: Mental illness
Moderate: Suicide

“I was not a person but just some evidence of myself.”
i’m still not sure how i feel about this book…elyria is certainly a very complicated character & had quite the journey.
i listened to the audiobook because i found the style of prose to be difficult to read on a page, but it worked very well in audiobook form and i enjoyed the narrator’s NZ accents.
i’m glad i read this overall. i think i related a little too much to elyria at times…i mean who doesn’t want to run away to new zealand and leave everything behind? sounds amazing

"Nobody is Ever Missing" greatly encompasses stream-of-conciousness writing. The inner dialogue is so relatable and conversational, that pages quickly become chapters. It felt as though I was reading the inner thoughts of a stranger who turned out to be far more similar to myself than I imagined. This book has little dialogue and action. It focuses on the main characters thoughts and how they seem to be incredibly detached from everything and everyone. I highly suggest this read for anyone who enjoys a change and an artistic flair.
